Splish Splash, having problems with the bath.

edited January 2015 in July 2014 Moms
Let's talk about bath time!

We're in this weird place where DD is not fitting in the tub with the sling part anymore (she's barely covered in water), but at the same time she's not quite ready to just sit in the tub, she ends up pushing off on the bottom and sliding herself far down into the water if there's no sling. We also have the blooming bath but have never used it and not exactly sure if it would solve our problem.

ETA: We still have the baby tub in the sink - should we be moving it to the actual tub and filling the tub with water? So confused!

Anyone else having some bath issues? How did you resolve them??

We just use the bathtub. I never even got the baby tub out of storage that we got for DS.
ETA: I just lay DD down in the water (only 3-4in deep) with my hand under her head for support while I wash her with my other hand. Now that she's starting to sit up on her own we've had 2 baths with her sitting, but I still lay her back to wash her hair.

What type of tub with the sling do you have? Ours had a removable sling to where you could lay her on a contoured section below that, or turn her around and there was a back support. I used the back support twice and just used my hand to hold her, and then after that we just went to her sitting in the actually real tub. We always had the infant tub in the big bathtub because it was easier.

@honeybee434‌ We have a removable sling in our tub and when we removed it and tried to have her sit on the incline she would use her feet to kick herself off and then she would slide off the little butt ledge - hence the search for an alternate way to bathe lol.

  • @littlemissmarla‌ - Ahh, ok. We never had the kicking problems so that's probably why ours worked a little longer! Not gonna lie, that sounds adorable to watch.

So I totally googled "help baby sit up in tub" and if you go to images they have a bunch of contraptions to put them in for the in between stages. Maybe there is a cheap option from one of those?

  • @honeybee434‌ Thanks! I will head to google and check it out!

This is our bath tub. Some bumpie recommended it back when LO was 6-8 weeks old and I bought it. It has been one of our best purchases to date.

LO can splash and kick. He is 20 pounds and still has plenty of room to lay down.

  • We just switched over to a bath chair last week

    11.2011 - DS1

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • I just put dd in the bathtub and play with her while she is lying down. She loves it. I do want to get a bath chair for her soon.

  • We use the Summer Infant bath chair. It reclines at different levels. It works really well for us. We put it in our bathtub.

  • We just use the kitchen sink. So much easier for us. I pull up a bar stool and sit in front while she plays and plays.

  • @ghostof5letters  Do you use some kind of stopper for the sink? We have the tub that lays across the sink but if we could fill it up, that could work too!

We've been using this since he's been able to sit up well  :)

ETA: We like it!  It prevents him from being able to bump into anything and hurt himself.

  • I bathe Spencer when I have a bath. We use the Angelcare bath chair, he sits in that and I sit in front of him. I find it easier to get into the nooks and crannies while cleaning him.

We've been using the fisher price "whale of a tub" and I like it a lot. We were using the summer reclining bath seat but even though I washed it constantly it started to smell. Anyway we keep it in the actually bath tub and she does great with it. She can lay back or sit up and she plays around with her bath toys while in it as well. I was thinking that I wouldn't need it for too much longer as she gets better with sitting up on her own and we can just put her in the actual tub. image
  • Now I feel crazy. Since 2.5 months we've put him in the tub and let him splash himself silly, moving up and down the tub as he arches his body around. Sometimes I try to catch him and clean out a fat roll. I had no idea that baby bathe aids are used beyond the first few months.

Haha don't feel crazy.. I feel crazy trying to keep my 6month old in the sling!

  • We started filling up the tub a few inches and laying her in it as well. She loves it. She splashes and splashes. I think it's way easier to clean her.
  • For those of you who lay the babies in the big tubs, does your LO stay on their backs or do they play on their tummies?

All three of mine have stayed on their back when in the big tub. Once they were pros at sitting they would begin sitting in the tub.

But my kids are late rollers and are sitting long before they think of rolling.
  • I just got this, after having used the giant yellow sponge seat thingy that I got for my baby shower.

I like it pretty well, and it seems to dry nicely in between baths.  It didn't occur to me to look into a little actual seat, though.  Guess I will have to look into that soon, too!  Least I have a nice bath thing for the eventual next baby.  LO seems to like the Safer Bather pretty well, it's soft and cozy!

  • We bathe lo in our bathroom - we put her tub on top of the counter. We were still using the sling but I bathed her without it over the weekend.  She too kicks and ends up sliding all over the place.

Last night she was making a mess with the water on the counter so my hubby moved her tub into our garden tub. Its deep and its hard to lean over.

Anyone have the same problem? Any suggestions?
  • We use one without a sling that he can sit in. Once he outgrows that, we'll use a laundry basket for him to sit in but gives him some walls to hold onto and keeps the toys from floating away in the tub. We did this for DD and it worked great until she was big enough and mobile enough to play in the big tub.

I can't wait for DD to be able to sit on her own, I love the laundry basket idea. I saw it on Pinterest And it's genius!

  • We also just fill the bathtub a few inches and H goes to town. She kicks like crazy and loves it.
  • DS used to freak out during baths in his infant seat, so I just started bathing with him.

Now he absolutely loves his baths and it's actually a lot easier for me to just sit in the tub cross legged while he's sitting up with my legs propping him (hopefully that makes sense)
