So, I am an RN on a busy medical-surgical floor and I am surrounded by pregnant people. A ton of my coworkers are pregnant & while I'm happy for them, I really need them to tone down the "my feet are so swollen today", "I need to drink more water for my little skittle" and, "I can't take that patient bc I am pregnant and they are in isolation". To make matters worse, every time a baby is born in the hospital, Brahms lullaby plays over the loudspeaker for the whole place to hear.
As much as I hate it, I've learned to deal with aforementioned. But today was a new low--I had a seven week pregnant patient. She was very nice but it was frustrating to take her narcotics (both oral and IV) every time she felt a little pain. I knew the day would come where I have to care for a pregnant patient but man, was it a mental tough test. I put on my most professional face and did my job as best as I could. I also worked really hard to treat her with utmost dignity and respect. Does anyone else find themselves in an ethical bind in their journey to conceive?
Maybe it's the stress of the TWW, or maybe I've got my breaking point but thank god I got to leave work four hours early. Rant over

Re: Can I just bitch for a second? Pregnancy mentioned-not mine
I had a rough time at work when half my coworkers were pregnant at any given time. Seriously as soon as 1 gave birth, another announced they were expecting. And since most of us got married at about the same time, I constantly heard "there must be something in the water, you're next!" Nope...now they've started lapping me. Ugh. Plus it's a low-income school so all the families have tons of little ones that they often can't care for when hubby and I can't have 1 and we both have jobs, we own a home, and have a stable relationship. I stay professional when they share their tough situations, but I can't help but be bitter.
Hang in there!
Thanks again for your reply, it cheered me up

@blsav23 - I'm in awe of all that nurses do as it is. But to put your IF related feelings aside and care for your patient in that situation must have been so difficult. (((Hugs))). I too hate the "there must be something in the water" comment that @supermorena mentioned.... got it so often last year when one by one our pharmacists and technicians were all getting KU.

May 2014 - Break cycle to repeat saline sonogram and re-group. Travel to Kauai 5/7-5/12 (Yay!!)
Everyday is a challenge and I force myself to believe I am stronger with every passing day because of it.
I also try and take comfort that one day they will be playing the lullaby song for me!!
It's exceptionally harder when my patients never wanted the babies to begin with or are addicted to drugs. Part of the job that we deal with. I try not to think about it too much or else I would have to change professions!
Stay strong!

You are completely justified in feeling this way.. Playing it over the whole speaker system seems pretty insincere especially in a hospital. Not only for those suffering with IF but also for other people who have recently lost a young one or are in the hospital with a sick child. Seems rude to me !
