Braxton hicks?

Earlier today , out of nowhere, I started to have some back pain. After awhile it started to feel as if I was having menstrual cramps ans the pain going down info my thighs. I did feel the baby kind of curl up on my right side when this happened. It was off and on for a couple hours after laying down and a hearing pad it dissipated. Was that Braxton hicks? Never been in labor so I have no idea if that was what I felt. Should I call my doctor tomorrow to let them now?

Re: Braxton hicks?

  • Braxton hicks are tightening of belly, they come and go, the belly can feel rock hard and then it goes away.

  • To me Braxton Hicks felt like period cramps and would come and go. I do remember that they were worse if I had been sitting for a long period of time or if I had a full bladder. There's no need to call your doctor about Braxton Hicks, you'll know real contractions from BH when they become timetable and the intensity increases. I experienced BH for about 5 weeks before real contractions started.

  • I started experiencing Braxton Hicks around the early 8th month period during my first pregnancy and usually they came on if I was sitting in a cramped position or hadn't had enough water. They didn't really feel like much more than (like JubilantSquirrel said) period cramps that would come and go. Sometimes, though, it can just be a build up of gas that causes the pain if there isn't a hardening of the belly.

  • Thanks ladies! I was alittle taken back with the pain

  • Make sure you're drinking lots of water. Dehydration can cause muscle cramping and Braxton Hicks. Aim for 80-100 oz a day at least.
