We went to Virginia to my nephews birthday party this weekend then spent the night with my sister. The big kids (both 3) are always so adorable together, but especially at bedtime. They slept together in his double bed and lots of giggling and shushing followed by them crashing out. So so sweet to see them snuggled in there together.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
1) I was telling E that she was doing a good job with whatever it was she was doing. She stopped, looked at me, and said "No mommy, you're doing a good job."
2) E put on my house shoes then spent half an hour walking around in them saying she was taking care of me and she was taking care of sister. So sweet.
And P just makes me smile all the time, because she's just awesome.

I have been having some issues at work lately and it's been causing some serious stress on my end. Someone lost some paperwork that I turned in 6 months ago and I just heard about it now, and am getting in trouble for it. I am on call in a busy ED and my staffer accidentally scheduled me for the wrong day. I obviously didn't come in because I had no idea I was scheduled, and I ended up getting written up for that, even after management saw the text message which blatantly showed the miscommunication. So now I am appealing that with HR. To top it off, since I am on call and only work 1, maybe 2 days a week, I don't qualify for FMLA and was only granted a 6 week maternity leave. I've been a mess about this because I just can't imagine having to come care for critically ill patients with a not sleeping 6 week old, and also because I want to try nursing this go round and I don't want to add the stress of going back to work so soon on top of it all.
Okay, so what makes me smile: Today I was granted an extension to my maternity leave from my manager, so I get to take the full 12 weeks off (unpaid, but I expected that) once DD arrives. I am so relieved, as I've been wondering if I will even be able to keep working if they made me return so soon, but I really love what I do. Now I don't have to make that awful choice

((hugs)) I'm sorry it's been so stressful on you lately. Being a working mom is so hard sometimes. I'm glad they granted you the extension though!!
My IMMS: D was an absolute rock star at doing his chores and helping out this weekend. He even let his little brother come in his bedroom and hang out for 20 minutes while I showered, dressed, and made breakfast for the boys yesterday.
G has enough communications skills now to start saying all those funny things kids say. Some classics from the last week. "Gramma - You come over now and we open presents. Okay?" - While talking to my mom on the phone. "Dad you need to vacuum up your mess now." "Mommy, I sorry I hit you in the face with hammer. You need a ice pack, make it all better?" (It was a toy hammer. I was fine. He just sort of fell into me while holding his hammer and hit my lip.)
IMMS that we are going w DH on his work trip for vacation next week. It will be my first vacation in 2.5 years. I'm so excited! I'll get to see my mom's BFF & play in Vegas w my girls. We won't see DH much, but hey, it will be such a nice break from real life to just be in a different city. Also, my nephew is taking care of my dog, so no worrying about her.
I really wanted a cast iron pan for Christmas and dh was skeptical. I ended up getting one and he was very much in the "that'll never work for us" camp. IMMS that with 3 recipes I've converted him to loving the cast iron. I think the bacon Mac and cheese last night was the turning point. I love it when he admits my ideas are good.
It also MMS that C figured out how to crawl this weekend. I know things are about to get crazy now, but he's been trying for so long and I love that he kept trying until he did it.
I had my first gig since the baby was born last week. When I had to leave for rehearsal my 2 1/2 year old said "You go play your oboe in a orchestra, Mommy. All the instruments are waiting for you!" and practically shoved me out the door. (And IMMS that he's putting together long sentences now, too.)
My daughter had her 2 month checkup this morning. Her weight gain was great, so they told me to stop supplementing with formula. I had major supply issues with my son, and he got mostly formula even though I wanted to BF. Things got off to a rocky start this time, too, but it seems to have worked itself out.

The first time I read this I thought you meant your baby was born last week! So glad you waited more like 2 months to go back to work!

Also I play clarinet! Woodwinds forever! LOL
Oh- I see that now. I should have said "last week I played my first gig since the baby was born." If I had played a week after having her I think I would have blown my guts out of my lady bits...

Clarinet, flute and sax player, here. Clarinet is my first love though and what I went to college for.
I started on clarinet, and sometimes wish I hadn't switched- reedmaking sucks. I play everything, too, at least a little bit- I teach MS and HS band. My flute playing needs improvement, though, and my tuba skills are downright poor.
SAK, that is so cute and I'm all for child labor too. My smiles is that today is going awesome. M slept in this morning, and so did I. DH got to the gym this morning (6th day of workout in a row for him), M and I went out for a 4 mile walk. I made BM oatmeal and BM zweiback is rising on the counter (btw, breastmilk, maple syrup and vanilla is delicious). I have meat going in the slow cooker and mustard for the farmers market cooking on the stove. M is even getting herself up onto all fours and contemplating the crawl.
Ack! So exciting/terrifying! P is leaning over from a sitting position and putting her hands on the ground, but has only gotten up on one knee so far. I'm not ready for my baby to be so big. But I'm also so proud and excited. How do you feel?

I MS that there are so many other woodwind/musicians I on the board. Sax player here, just teaching privately now, idk of I'll go back to the schools. I did take a semester of oboe lessons in college though! Also, G had been blowing raspberries. So cute!
C is all better this week. He had a bad case of RSV last week. But now he is running around, laughing, and eating good.
And it still makes me smile when I think about how he went from taking a few steps on his birthday to full speed running within 2 weeks. This kid can book it across the kitchen when I open the fridge.
Flumma, L has been blowing raspberries so much lately. It cracks me up! Even if he's not actively doing it, his tongue is usually poked out in anticipation. N was never a razzer, so this is new and exciting!
Who knew there were so many musicians. Would the brass section please stand up?
Trumpet here! I played from grades 6-12 and even went to band camp one summer. But it was a really hoity toity pretentious band camp, so not quite as nerdy. Who am I kidding, they were all snobby nerds- a weird amalgam. I only went once.
IMMS that I sort of started nesting and I've sorted through P's baby clothes and washed and put away all the clothes for #2. Oh, I also washed/sanitized my NB diapers, of which I have so many I could probably CD newborn quads.
When I was sifting through my many NB RaR covers, P grabbed one (she was having naked time) and put the diaper over her bottom and tapped it emphatically. I put it on her, but just barely. It was snapped as large as it would go, and it was tight enough to see her little butt crack cleavage through the PUL, almost like she was wearing tiny PUL undies.
I saw today's date and was reminded of a year ago tomorrow going to the lab for a blood test. We had just flown back from Cambodia and in spite of three BFN, I just knew I was pregnant. The first blood test said I wasn't but IMMS that I was and now have my beautiful girl in my arms
I'm late sorry gals. IMMS that I found a great sitter for both little kids so I can go to school. Today went much better than I thought. I was able to pump in my car between classes and the kids had a great time at my friend's house. Yay!
E makes me smile. Light of my life. It is sad that she won't be my itty baby forever but I love all of the new things she is learning. She finally is crawling, she finally has 2 teeth, and she is a talking machine. I just love watching her grow and learn.
