We CD'd our DD and loved it so much.  Mostly used little joeys for newborn stage then switched to fuzibuns.  When our DS came along we were all prepared to CD again.  Except he peed straight through.  Every time.  I tried stripping the diapers, putting extra inserts in, everything.  He always did a straight shot right through.  Eventually, much to our chagrin, we gave up.

We're now expecting our second boy and I really want to CD again.  Moms of boys, any advice??

    Yup. I have 2 boys currently in cloth, and rarely have leaks. The only time we do is when #1 peed a ton unexpectedly, o they were left n a diaper too long.

    No issues here.

    I will say that the 2 lil' joey's I bought for the NB stage were the first ones DS outgrew in terms of absorbency. He would leak in them starting at about 3 weeks old. 

    Otherwise the only times we really have leaks are when he takes a really long nap or something like that.

    I do find my sons diapers will be soaked in the front and bone dry in the back, but he hasn't been any more prone to leaks than my daughter was.

    How is the elastic? After a year and a half use, I needed to replac the elastic. Plus your son could have been a heavy wetter or your inserts needed to be replaced.

    Also, were the diapers stored between babies? Extreme temps can damage the PUL.

    Work horses and covers. If he pees through that then the problem is you

    I got pretty frustrated with newborn aios. They leaked no matter what I did. So I just ended up using profolds and covers. Looking back on it I'm pretty sure I was just putting the aios on too loose. It was totally user error on my part. Everyone else is right too, the elastic might be relaxed or your microfiber might be shot. If you want a pretty fool proof method, try profolds, flats, or workhorses with covers.

    Another vote for "different babies = different pee patterns". Diapers fit my boys differently, they were differently sensitive to wetness, they pooped and peed on a different cadence (#1 has a really big tank, so his pee would be high-volume, #2 is a more frequent pee-er). With both, though, I've had better success with natural fibers. And like a PP said, for the newborn stage, fitteds/prefolds and covers really do work best. I wouldn't do AIO until he's bigger.
