Pregnant after 35

Fetal Arrhythmia?

Has anyone had experience with a fetal arrhythmia? One was just detected in my prenatal appointment but I can't get in to perinatology until Monday morning. The perinatologist screened me and determined it wasn't an emergency because baby is moving like normal indicating no distress, and the heartbeat did return to a normal rhythm after a few skipped beats, but of course I'm still worried.

Re: Fetal Arrhythmia?

  • I have not. But my one daughter had a little arrhythmia, that her ped noticed when she was in the hospital around 16months. So I would guess it was always there. He said she would probably grow out of it. They did all kinds of tests and she passed them all, so I think it would just happen now and then. I think I had one also when I was young.

  • I researched arrhythmias a few weeks ago when the baby's heart rate went above 200 according to my home doppler. (It went down relatively quickly and hasn't come back since, as far as I can tell.)

I found this to be the best "quick" overview:

The bottom line is that occasional arrhythmias are nothing to worry about but you should still report it and have it fully checked out to rule out a number of conditions, some of them treatable in utero. So it sounds like you're doing everything right.

  • With my third baby he had tachycardia, with heart rates well over 200bpm.  I was monitored regularly and because the rate would always come back down into a normal range within a minute or two, I was told it wasn't really anything to worry about.  I still worried but did have a healthy baby.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I don't know anything about this but I just wanted to send you hugs, I'm sure it must feel scary.
