Camping at 24 weeks?

Have any moms gone camping while pregnant? I went with my first but it was in an RV, and we were thinking of planning a tent camping trip. It's about 3 hours away, and would be for 5 days. Any tips?? We have air mattresses, a huge tent, etc. Thanks in advance :)

Re: Camping at 24 weeks?

  • Bring extra pillows for you to use when sleeping on an air mattress. Air mattresses suck even when you're not pregnant. Otherwise, just tons of water, good shoes, yummy healthy snacks, a flashlight for late night bathroom trips.. Same as regular camping really. Not much changes from camping when not pregnant.

  • I have been a few times while pregnant and plan to go a couple times during this pregnancy. We tent camp and I use an air mattress. We usually only do small hikes since we always have kids with us. We may also do a little geocaching. My DH does most of the set up and take down of the csmpsite so that I can rest. Our kids are getting older and also help out. I just take it easy when camping while pregnant.
  • Eh, air mattress while pregnant sounds terrible to me, but I get very achey when I sleep.

Have fun if you decide to brave it!

  • I have 2 girlfriends who did it & had a great time.
  • We'll be camping when I'm 21 weeks but I'm insisting on RV instead of the original tent plan. I just can't imagine sleeping on an air mattress, with someone else, while pregnant. I also pee at leat twice overnight :)

  • DH and I actually camped in a tent a few days after we found out we were expecting and all was great! The worst part was having to get up to pee 2-3 times at night. I would assume it would be a little more uncomfortable at 24 weeks considering air mattresses aren't comfortable when not preggo but with sufficient pillows ad blankets you should be fine! GL!
  • I tent camped around that time when I was pregnant with my first. I think the most annoying part was getting up several times in the middle of the night to pee, but other than that nothing was different. I just brought a case of water with me to stay hydrated, and of course slept on an air mattress.

  • I love camping but pregnant, with a belly, and out in the woods does not sound appealing to me at all. I would rather do a shorter get away to some bed and breakfast, still do hiking and whatever you want to, but don't compromise on the comfort too much.

  • I have a camping trip booked for the end of May, I'm not sure if its going to work or not though!!
We have a trailer so that might make a little bit of a difference!

I say just see how you you are feeling closer to then! As long as you are comfortable and have everything you need to keep you healthy, I say go for it :) I love camping!

  • DH and I are hoping to do some tent camping in the spring, but we're keeping it open-ended since who knows how I'll be feeling then. We usually only go for a night or two, so I'm definitely willing to give it a shot- but we might suck it up and book a cabin if it's clear I'm not going to be comfortable.

I read this as cramping at 24 weeks and was trying to figure why you were a July mom! Lol No additional advice. Sounds like pps have got it covered!

  • I camped both 27 weeks and 33 weeks pregnant. In a tent. We did double up the air mattresses, but other than that no issues. If you have control over it, though, I recommend seeing about getting a site close to the restroom! One of those times it was a 5 minute walk up hill to the potty, and a few times I BARELY made it!

FTR, we have also camped with an 8 month old. If you're an experienced camper, a kid just makes it more of an adventure :).
