For those of you that work out

When do you find time to do it? Do you wait until LO has gone to bed or use a gym daycare? I'd love to get back into shape but I'm so tired by the evening I don't want to go out to the gym ( plus sub zero temps make going out unappealing). The gym I'm a member of has babysitting but only in the morning on a first come basis and only 5 kids at once so chances of getting in are always slim. Are at home workouts at all affective?

Re: For those of you that work out

  • I do short work outs (currently 30 day shred) when she takes her morning nap. I usually have time to work out, shower and relax for a little bit before she wakes up.

  • I do it when the boys go to bed...they are usually down by 7:30 or so, so I immediately go change and then do a video or two. I like the 30 day shred, it's one of my go-to workouts. I also look on other websites and look for things I might like and just print them out and follow them. I typically do 20-25 min. I do think they are effective...I can always tell a difference when I am consistent about it.

  • My gym has daycare so I'll take her with me on the weekends or DH will watch her. During the week, DH does dinner/bed time 2x a week. After work and DC pickup, I go to the gym. My work also has a small gym. I do that 1-2x a week during lunch or after work before I pick up DD.

  • I run with DD, and do ab workouts while she naps. I tried doing it while she playing with toys but as soon as I laid down, I became her jungle gym :-)

  • @kendy20‌ I'm having trouble with the same thing. My uses me as a jungle gym, too.
It's hard to get my workout in during his morning nap because I don't have time to have a shower after. It's really frustrating to work out for 20 minutes only and have a quick shower after. It's just not enough. I'm looking forward to warm weather so I can take the baby in walks with me, but it's just too cold in NJ. I might start walking the mall.

I'm not trying to lose weight, so I just do stretches and lift him. I will get more serious when the warmer weather comes, I just took advantage of amazon's deal on the BOB. That wiLl be fun to go for long walks and jog.

  • I miss being able to go for long walks. I did a lot of those over the summer
  • I used to do Jillian Michaels workouts before I lost my motivation. I found them very effective despite being 30-45 mins each. I think the best one is Ripped in 30, but any of hers that I've tried have been good. Now that DS is taking longer naps I should try to get back into it.

  • I forgot to add, I work full time and my commute is pretty long, so the only time I can work out is when they are in bed. When it warms up, I fully intend to take them on walks around the neighborhood either right before or right after dinner.

  • I work full time and so find time evenings or weekends when DD is asleep or if DH is watching her. I workout at home, we have a stationary bike and then I do stretching, sit-ups, Pilates, hand weights. One of my friends just told me yesterday that the Nike app is fantastic for at home workouts, I haven't checked it out yet.
  • I did a few lunges the other night. Still sore. Totally effective.
  • I have found the Lindsay Brin DVDs very effective. I'm actually in better shape now (7 months post partum) than I was before I got pregnant. I did her postnatal boot camp first, then pretty fierce weight loss, and now I'm doing pretty fierce lean out. All the work outs are about 20-40 min in length. My baby sleeps till about 8:30 so I just wake up early and get it done for she's up.

I never figured it out when I was working. But now that I'm a SAHM I workout during naps (actually I just started this week)! I find 5-10min workout videos on YouTube and try to do a couple while the kids are asleep. Sometime I can get through an entire one, sometimes I have to go put DD2 back to sleep. I figure even if it's only 10min it's better than nothing. The last two days I got through 2 10min videos and I'm totally sore everywhere. So it's definitely enough to get started.

  • Sounds like 30min at home are the way to go. I'm thinking I can make Saturday gym time a regular thing too, DH needs to start pulling his weight with the childcare so I can get some time out
