baby announcement ?

I was thinking about baby announcements the other day and I got to thinking about when you send them out when you adopt.  Do you send them out after placement, kind of like you would if you give birth?  Or do you wait until the adoption is finalized (which could be months later)?

    I think we'll do it once the baby is placed and maybe include when the adoption is finalized in a christmas card letter or something. 

    What are you thinking of doing?

    We sent ours out after placement and sent an email to family and friends when we got the finalization paperwork.

    Most of my family and friends met Ben when he was about 6 weeks old at a shower so I didn't send out announcements ( I didn't have any time, either).  I sent a Christmas picture at Christmas.

    I was thinking of just sending them out after placement but didn't know if that was "proper adoption ettiquette"

    I think we will probably do it after placement. I figure if we wait until it is finalized it would be 'pointless' because by that time everyone will have called, emailed, or visited us and met our child which is kind of the point of the announcement. I don't know if there is proper ettiquette - I think with everything else in adoption, parents have to do what they feel is best for them, their sitaution and their family.

    We are doing foster to adopt and I wanted to send the announcements out after our placement, but there was still a risk of reunification with her biological parents.  So we decided to send an email to our family/friends about our placement and expected timing of everything.  Once the adoption is finalized, I plan to send out a 'We're official!' announcement.

    I think it depends on the situation and what you prefer.  I don't know of any etiquette around this.

    We're sending them out asap after placement. We don't plan on telling too many fam/friends about possible matches. Anyway, I am making them myself to help fill the wait time (I'll plug in dates/pics and print after) and I think they will have birth info, 'placed in our arms on' and then 'hoping to make it final in (est month/year). '

    We are foster/adopt but knew at 3 mo. we would be adopting. We sent the announcements out when BM asked us to adopt. We included her new name and original birth stats (height, weight, etc.). They turned out awesome!

    Since we got the call a week before he was born, and it was Christmas day, we just made up extra cards and included them with our Christmas cards (which were already printed and I was getting ready to send out).  We said something like "the greatest gift of all, we got the call" and his stats.  In October we sent out Thanksgiving cards to thank everyone who had given thoughts and prayers and help to us as we finalized our adoption of our son.  So in  a way it was a finalization announcement too.
