I BFed DD for 16 months with no real issues. DS is 8 months old, and just within the last few days, my nipples are suddenly very sore. They look normal as far as I can tell, maybe a tad more pink than usual, but really nothing notable. What could cause this? I haven't gotten my period yet, and it didn't return until about 13 months postpartum with DD. I highly doubt that I am pregnant, since DH and I can't ever find time to DTD *and* he had a vasectomy. Would I have other signs if it is thrush? DS just started his first ever course of anitbiotics 4 days ago for an ear infection, but I would think that would be too soon for thrush? He is also teething, but this seems to be a different kind of sensitivity than what I would experience from that kind of irritation. Am I missing something?
Re: Suddenly sore nipples (8 month old baby)?
DD just turned 8 months on Sunday and for the last week or so my nipples have been tender. No sickness here, though, and no teething that I can tell. I've never really experienced discomfort nursing, even in the beginning. Even now, it's not unbearable, but noticeable. Wondering what's up with that?
Some of these symptoms are similar to me. I've had pain that comes and goes but seems to be gone now. AF is already back and has been so I'm familiar with that pain - doesn't seem related. Today my nipple has been pretty itchy, seems to be ok right now but was super itchy during my first pumping session. I will check DD's mouth this evening for white patches but she has been sick the last couple of days.
Thrush? What true signs should I be looking for? Nipple is not super read. Anything I can try at home first before heading to the doc if it is?
