As I am new to Atlanta and don't have an OBGYN, I have been recommended both Dr. Stephanie Grogen of Peachtree Women's Clinic and Dr. Michael Dawson of Atlanta Women's Specialist. It is a high risk pregnancy and I want to deliver at Northside Hospital. Can you share your thoughts about either of these doctors (or practices).
I originally went with AWS. They were nice. I really liked one of the U/S techs but another one was not so nice and kinda rude. The doctors were nice too but I really wanted a midwife so I switched. Also a huge downfall that I did not like was they required all deductable/coinsurance to be paid BEFORE the 20th week. They told me this a week before my first payment of $450 was due and this was a complete surprise pregnancy. So over all, they were ok. Lastly, I didnt want to deliver at Northside due to high c-section rates and I wanted to do a water birth.
I definitely understand your aversion especially if you wanted a more unassisted birth process.... I am in a bit of a different boat as I had a preemie the first go around and want to be at the hospital with the highest ranking NICU (I am automatically high risk now...).
Where did you switch to?
I am really hoping for another vaginal birth, but honestly my top priority is keeping baby cooking as long as possible and if that isn't to term then I want to make sure the best medical care if available for LO.....
@MissMusic It sounds like they are both great options. I am going to call both for an appointment and see what hits. As I am only 4 weeks, I'm okay waiting for a few more weeks to be seen.
That being said--- those Northside stories are nuts! I actually delivered my 1st at an EXTREMELY popular hospital in Chicago, but because of my pre-term status (and due to the fact that I'd been on hospital bed rest for a few weeks), they were great. My doctor even got my insurance to cover additional time after delivering to help accommodate given the fact my daughter was in the NICU. I am hoping the hospital experience here is as good... (and yes- I know I am looking well into the future, but like I said, I am a little neurotic due to the first go around...)
I definitely understand the need for a hospital with high NICU ratings and if you are high risk, you need a doc/hospital that specializes. I ended up going with See Baby and will be delivering at Atlanta Medical Center.
I never felt rushed to get out of Northside after my deliveries. After my first one, I was given the choice of how long to stay (I chose an extra day). With the second I wanted to be home quicker because we had our son at home waiting for me, but I still never felt pushed to get out so they could turn the room over.
