Honestly, whatever I'm in the mood for. I still have crazy aversions (even at close to 18 weeks) so I try my best to eat as healthy as I can, but often fail. Hahaha My go-to food? Clementine oranges. Literally cannot get enough, sometimes it'll be all I eat at night. As long as you put an effort into eating healthy, you're alright. Baby is taking all he/she needs from you. My mom wasn't getting enough calcium and actually lost a tooth when she was pregnant with me cause I literally took everything from her. Then, at birth, I ended up breaking her pubic bone. My poor mom.... hahaha! Just try your best and take your prenatal vitamins, baby will take what is needed!

I just eat what I feel like I can eat. I never actually got MS or anything, but I haven't been hungry since like week 5. And I haven't been able to eat meat without wanting to gag since around Thanksgiving. Basically, all my nutrition comes from the Ensure/Protein shakes I make myself have around 10 a.m. every day to make sure I eat something. From then on out...it could be nothing, it could be a bunch of fruits and veggies, or it could be a cupcake with ice cream on top.
OB wasn't concerned when I told her, so I'm not going to worry about it.
Just depends on what I feel like. I can't do anything overly cheesy, fragrant, or rich right now for some reason. Tonight is homemade spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, and steamed green beans. Sometimes I'll do chicken enchiladas and put tons of avocado on top or beef nachos. For breakfast, I've been really into Starbucks breakfast sandwiches & Earl Grey tea and frozen waffles. Lunch is the hardest meal for me- I can never think of anything that sounds good. Really, all I want is a sandwich from Jersey Mikes or Jimmy Johns but the thought of heating the meat up makes me want to gag. I got a sweet onion chicken teriyaki a few weeks ago and it took me like 30 minutes to get it down because the taste of onions right now is just gross.
Other things I'm loving are cottage cheese & strawberries, popcorn, clementines, chocolate milk, greek yogurt, cheddar cheese and grapes, and chips (especially the baked white cheddar cheetos- YUM). I try to get at least a couple servings of fruit & veggies in every day, even if it's sneaking it by loading avocado on everything.
This all helps me feel a little more validated in our argument. He's very extreme when it comes to nutrition. I've usually been eating..
Breakfast- yogurt, blueberries, blackberries & strawberries. With 1 gummy prenatal
Lunch/Dinner: chicken, broccoli, or spinach with 1 more gummy prenatal at dinner time.
Snacks usually string cheese or more fruit just depends what I get from the store. And I do indulge in sweets, if I'm at the gas station I might get something every few days. I've been limiting caffeine to about 1 drink every 3 days whether it be soda (sometimes I'll just drink half) or iced coffee. Today I just started the breakfast protein shakes since I'm not usually hungry in the mornings. But like for lunch today I had basmati rice, zucchini and chicken apple sausages. He saw me eat it and just now he was making himself something to eat, which I'm not too hungry yet and wanted a little snack.. Just had a craving for string cheese. He saw me pull it out of the fridge and got all over me about why haven't I eaten healthy today. That zucchini isn't good enough and rice does nothing for me. I need to be eating leafy greens.. Which yeah I get and I usually do about once a day. But I just feel like I'm either starving trying to eat his way which never leaves me full and my face is thinning so much its making me sad. Or Im eating like shit and giving our baby crap foods and going to make him unhealthy, according to him. I understand his views are extreme and he's always been this way cause he truly believes processed and packaged foods are poison to your body. For the past 8 weeks, all I have wanted was chicken wings...give me all the chicken wings. I can not stop. We just ordered pizza for dinner, and I got chicken wings. Going out to eat now means that we have to go somewhere with good wings. I NEEEEED them.
I'm also enjoying oranges a lot. I have no idea what to eat for breakfast, so I just eat an orange and wait for an appropriate hour to eat chicken wings...like, 10am.
My first tri "Give me all the root beer floats" gave me a 15 lbs start. Now that I'm on my chicken wing kick, I've lost it all plus some.
Now, I'm going to go heat up some chicken wings!!!

Maybe you should have him come with you to a prenatal appointment and bring up your diet with your doctor and let the doctor tell him you're eating healthy. If that's all you're eating, that doesn't sound like enough calories. That diet sounds like a diet someone would be on to try to lose weight. You shouldn't be losing enough weight while you're pregnant for your face to start looking thin.
Post-morning workout I gave a glass of dark chocolate almond milk and then after getting ready for work I have some OJ and either a bowl of Special K or scrambled eggs and whole wheat toast for breakfast. At work I typically have a piece of fruit as a morning snack, a PB sandwich for lunch, and an apple and low fat string cheese for an afternoon snack. Dinner varies but typically involves carbs and veggies and sometimes protein (I don't eat much meat). Often I'll have a small piece of candy for dessert.
Weekends are a bit different due to lack of set schedule and I typically go out to lunch 1-2 times a week from work...i get whatever I feel like but it typically involves either a lot of veggies (I go to an Asian place a lot and get veggie hibachi with rice and a spring roll) or a sandwich with French fries. And this time of year the occassional grilled cheese and tomato soup.
DH gives me grief about my cheese consumption but cheese is delicious and I don't feel bad about it. :-)

He says that doctors know very little about nutrition and the way your body works with nutrients because they only spend a couple hours in medical school learning about nutrition. So he thinks they are stupid when it comes to that topic.

Oh jeez. What about a nutritionist?
Funny thing. His friends wife is one and he told her to talk to me and we talked and she said rice is good, whole grain breads are good, which according to him its not and I haven't had much of either due to that fact so that night I came home and made rice and chicken and spinach. Now he says she doesn't know cause their kid is over weight.
Its just his way or the highway or something. But I should look into one that I can go see and take him to. See, he's an athlete so what he's trying to accomplish is totally different then what I am and I think he's not realizing that. I know his heart is in the right place but its just too much right now.
Is your H a nutritionist or just a gym buff that has read a couple of websites about paleo?
No he's a professional mma fighter and works with trainers and nutritionist for optimal athletic health.
Why don't you have him ask one of his nutritionists about nutrition in pregnancy? Nutrition for women and nutrition for men are completely different. You aren't cutting weight for a competition and right now your baby needs calories that you have to eat. The baby isn't just going to draw nutrition from your body fat. Pregnancy doesn't work like that.
Yeah I'm going to look into all this cause it might end up giving us answers and helping both of us. Thanks for letting me vent and being here for me!
My diet has been terrible. Haha, but before I got pregnant, I was on the paleo diet. Does that count as healthy... I was on it while I ovulated, so I consider it during pregnancy
Umm I feel like you're doing great. I eat what I can keep down. Not a whole lot of healthy going on lots of noodles and the only veggies I get are in an egg roll.
I hope for your sake he doesn't pressure you into trying to lose the baby weight right away.
No our goal is to help me keep the weight and gain lean muscle. Its what I've been trying to achieve for so long and am looking forward to the boost in weight increase. I've always been underweight and just can never get to where I want to be. So were at least on the same page about that. And let me clear up hes in no way trying to make me lose weight or slow weight gain down. He's more concerned about nutrients that are beneficial and staying away from empty nutrients that take away from the good stuff you put in your body.
It seems like your SO wants you to be on a paleo diet during pregnancy? You don't have to have leafy greens every day if it makes you sick, as long as you try to have some fruits/veggies, protein, healthy fats, and whole grains, you are doing everything right. I see nothing wrong with having whole wheat bread, pasta, quinoa, buckwheat, etc.
It doesn't sound like you are even eating anything processed at all. Maybe add a lot more healthy fats to your diet if you're concerned about gaining weight? Coconut oil, organic butter, avocado? But, he shouldn't be making you upset over this and if he is, tell him the stress he is causing you will do more harm than your diet.
Ohhhh girl if my DH was trying to tell me to eat healthier and I was eating like you are, I'd take my happy ass to McDonald's then eat a bunch of McNuggets and a Big Mac in front of him in the most grotesque way possible. Then I'd top it all off with a McFlurry.
You're eating healthier than I did when I was a health-freak, workout/weight loss addict. I think you both could probably use some Little Debbie action to ease the tension.

Lol made me laugh. Little deb does sound pretty yummy right now!
Honestly, if my DH spoke to me that way, we would go directly to marraige counselling, maybe with a stop at McDonald's on the way. He sounds like a total dick, not to mention uninformed about pregnancy nutrition. And your diet sounds exemplary, if not too low in calories and healthy fats. What you put into your body is your business, not his, as long as you're not smoking or drinking. He can focus on his own health and respect you enough to take care of yourself. He sounds like a controlling nightmare, is he going to lose it on your two year old when he will only eat fries and pizza?
I was very worried about my nutrition in the beginning of this pregnancy because all I could keep down for weeks was orange flavored Gatorade and saltines. My doctor assured me that the baby would get plenty of nutrients from the stores in my body, no matter what I ate. It's not like a kale salad goes directly from my stomach to the baby's, that's just not how it works. I am feeling a little bit better now so I am trying to eat more vegetables, fruits, and protein, but I also eat a lot of processed food. It was the same way in my first pregnancy when I lived on pop tarts and frozen pizza, and my son is incredibly healthy and thriving.
I usually have oatmeal and some decaf in the morning. Snack is usually some fage greek yogurt or string cheese. Lunch is carrot sticks & hummus, fruit, maybe some nuts.
Dinner tends to be more random and dependent on how tired I am when I get home. Tonight was pretty unhealthy - chicken fried steak fingers & gravy and a bunch of grapes.

I try to eat as healthy as I possibly can-- incorporating fruits, veggies, healthy fats, grains & dairy into my daily diet, HOWEVER, my husband learned very quickly to keep his mouth shut. He tried to tell me not to eat the popcorn chicken covered in dynamite sauce (ketchup, mayo & hot sauce) that I was craving after I had eaten healthy all day. He hasn't said anything since

See, but the problem is that the foods that fall into these categories will differ wildly between a) a male athlete focused on performance, lean muscle increase, and fat reduction and b) a pregnant woman trying to gain healthy weight (including FAT) and supply her growing baby with the energy and nutrition it needs. Your SO's diet will not be healthy for a pregnant woman. There's just not enough of what you need (calcium, carbs for energy, etc) in that type of eating style. Is it good for the average (non-pregnant) human? Some would even debate that point, but in general I'd say yes.
Trust me, being a runner/endurance athlete, I've seen all kinds of crazy advice about the "best" style of eating for optimal performance. They certainly don't overlap with what's best for growing a little person inside you.
Please don't let his skewed views on your eating cause you to make unhealthy choices for your growing baby.
MH is just happy when I eat! And actually want to! I had a giant bowl of ice cream for lunch yesterday and got a high five for it. But seriously, like PPs have said, in pregnancy there's cravings and aversions and it's not just a matter of 'making better choices'. As a fitness guy this may be difficult for him to understand but you need to have a conversation with him and educate him because you should NOT have to deal with judgement when you eat.
When I was earlier on in my pregnancy and indulging in ice cream everyday for a 4-day period, DH mentioned something to me about it. Now, mind you, I was eating a normal serving after dinner because I wanted it.
DH is also an athlete - he rows competitively - so, nutrition looks differently to him. We discussed how his comment of 'concern' made me feel, since I don't feel like there's anything wrong with having ice cream 4 days in a row, and it felt judgmental and was causing guilt on my end. Thankfully, he was really and listened to my feelings. He's been very supportive since, and I think part of it was just him not really getting it, since this is our first pregnancy.
I would definitely agree that you have a conversation with him about it, and discuss it with your doctor too. I know he doesn't feel like doctors really understand nutrition, but I feel like OB's do get women's bodies that are going through pregnancy, so there might be something worthwhile in that discussion.
@kmcdaniel7 Have him read Chris Kresser or Mark's Daily Apple. They are primally focused on no processed foods but are ok with things like rice, potatoes, dairy. My husband and I are food nuts but we've been eating these items. (Keep in my quality of the dairy is important, Grassfed if possible). I've had some yogurt soaked oatmeal too. Mark's all about a nice fresh baked piece of bread at a nice restaurant once in a while. This fits in with the Crossfit/weightlifting community too. It's important to have some carbs for fuel. Food Renegade is a good site for you too that has lots of pregnancy diet info and she also does some oatmeal and stuff (after soaking out anti nutrients). Maybe these can lead to a middle ground.... Homemade ice cream, etc.
For breakfast I usually have oatmeal and some fruit. Lunch is usually a sandwich and fruit (last week it was a cucumber and cream cheese sandwich every day) with fruit, and dinner just depends. I'm usually not that hungry so I'll have an egg sandwich. Although last week I was craving beef so I ate a few burgers and things like that. Snacks are Greek yogurt, cheese and crackers, or cereal. I also usually have something sweet in there.
I'm eating WAY differently than I did pre pregnancy! I've always eaten a lot of veggies and ate a salad for lunch daily. That sounds awful to me now! I just try to get veggies in where I can and not to stress. I eat what I'm craving and assume baby is getting what it needs. My husband hasn't said a word to me--thank goodness!
I'm just guessing that most of you are lucky enough to be past nasty nausea by now. Today I've had saltines, water, and some Coke. Oh I had popcorn too hoping it would help. Not every day is this bad but it probably happens at least once a week. Most days I try to keep my protein intake high through low fat cheeses, Greek yogurt, lean meat (only ground though bc meat texture is currently very gross) and low fat milk. I also make sure to have as many fruits and veggies and I can but it's much lower than it was prepregnancy.
I agree with other PP that since your DH doesn't seem to believe anyone but his trainers that he should talk to them about your food intake. My DH does a lot of bodybuilding but doesn't say anything to me about what I'm eating especially since I've felt so miserable. The only comment he'll make is if I'm not eating protein.
He says that doctors know very little about nutrition and the way your body works with nutrients because they only spend a couple hours in medical school learning about nutrition. So he thinks they are stupid when it comes to that topic.
My DH is kinda the same but in a different way... he was strict vegan for several years and into natural nutrition/medicine.
PG nutrition has definitely been a give/take. On one hand, he already takes his role very seriously and wants to be as actively involved as much as possible. I don't want to discount that, so I'm sure to make sure he knows I'm taking my prenatals and "superfood."
My diet, however, has been a compromise... of course he would like to feed the baby organic veggies all day long, but has been very understanding of my food challenges aversion/cravings/disinterest in cooking, etc. And thankfully, he's rolled with it. He laughs at the weird things I crave and at one point said that he would be disappointed if I didn't send him on a run to the store for pickles and ice cream at some point.
So between the 1T weirdness, holidays and travel... my diet so far has been total crap. Of course I feel better when I eat well and am already getting back into a normal routine (which still includes regular treats!)
Anyway, you sound like you eating really well and should not end up "starving." Your SO's intentions may be coming from a good place, but he his definitely not expressing himself in the positive, supportive way you need right now. You are not a pro athlete right now, and shouldn't be eating like one. Hope you can work things out.

Your diet looked great! I eat horribly and I know it. Yesterday I ate a bagel, hash browns, sliders, wings and a hot fudge sundae. That's disgusting. It's what I normally ate before being pregnant (low BMI) but I know it's not healthy. I wish I had the appetite for the food you're eating. Trying to get more calcium because I know I'm getting the nutrients from my PNV and all the fruit I eat. Good luck with this argument..all my DH tells me constantly is to eat more since I haven't gained any weight.

Sorry for the poor man's siggy...ticker won't load regardless of how many tips I read.
@kmcdaniel7 you're eating great. If you feel like you need to include more leafy greens but they are making you feel sick I have a suggestion.
I make a smoothie every morning with a scoop of Green Vibrance, vibrant health. You can get it at a local health food store and it has allllll the greens you need for the day. It's totally safe for pregnancy and it gives you the extra nutrients and vitamins you may be missing from your diet. Plus you don't feel as guilty if you skip out on a salad.
OP, I would be proud of myself if I ate like you do! I generally try to eat healthy, but do have a soft spot for junk food. Did pretty well today until the Tostitos were calling my name. DH is always telling me to eat more "for the baby," but also knows when to ask if he should take the chips away I think if you keep doing what you're doing, you and baby will have a very healthy pregnancy.
the only thing that has been consistent is breakfast. which is orange juice with calcuim and 2 blueberry ego waffles... It's what I wake up for. lol I've probably had ego waffles everyday for the past 2 weeks now.
Try to start the day healthy, fruits, veggies etc but then I get home and it all goes yo hell just ate a whole bag my of starbursts for dinner....my DH has learned to not say anything about my eating anymore unless he wants me to bite his head off and feel totally guilty after i let him know of all the sacrifices I am making for our baby. He also knows telling me not to do something makes me do it more (I have an issue with authority and being told what to do) if I can get my lazy fat ass off the couch I'm gonna make some pizza rolls and get some oreos.
Not sure if this has been mentioned, but there has been some research done into why we eat the way we do when expecting. Check out crossfit mama website, I think I found a good summary there with *gasp* citations and everything! And it isn't paleo, shockingly.
3. Worrying about eating PERFECTLY healthy was, and is, so boring to me. Unless you have a legit health concern from your eating habits, I think you should eat what your body is telling you to eat. For me, yesterday that included 5 pieces of sugar toast, and today it included tons of protein and vegetables (very little carbs).
OMG you eat way healthier than i do! Just give me ALL the carbs! Today I had banana bread for breakfast and AM snack (homemade, so it's a little healthier) then a chicken tender sandwich for lunch. I've got strawberries packed for my PM snack and am having chicken/rice/spinach salad for dinner. Usually after dinner, I snack on tortilla chips w/ salsa and s'mores pop tarts. I feel like as long as I'm taking my vitamin to fill in the gaps, I should just eat what I want, all food groups in moderation.
This coming from the girl who is sitting in the movie theater watching Penguins of Madagascar with a 2 yr old while eating her body weight in popcorn and peanut M&Ms. Feel free to share my eating habits with your DH to bolster your case...
Re: Whats your avg daily diet been?
My go-to food? Clementine oranges. Literally cannot get enough, sometimes it'll be all I eat at night.
As long as you put an effort into eating healthy, you're alright. Baby is taking all he/she needs from you. My mom wasn't getting enough calcium and actually lost a tooth when she was pregnant with me cause I literally took everything from her. Then, at birth, I ended up breaking her pubic bone. My poor mom.... hahaha!
Just try your best and take your prenatal vitamins, baby will take what is needed!

But Im doing what works for me right now and hell I ate way worse in my first pregnancy and he was 8 lbs 6 oz super healthy baby. It just sucks to feel like your partner doesn't think you're doing a good job at growing your baby.
-vented: sorry so long-
I'm also enjoying oranges a lot.

No he's a professional mma fighter and works with trainers and nutritionist for optimal athletic health.
Yeah I'm going to look into all this cause it might end up giving us answers and helping both of us. Thanks for letting me vent and being here for me!
Lol made me laugh. Little deb does sound pretty yummy right now!

Good luck
It's what I wake up for. lol
I've probably had ego waffles everyday for the past 2 weeks now.
This coming from the girl who is sitting in the movie theater watching Penguins of Madagascar with a 2 yr old while eating her body weight in popcorn and peanut M&Ms. Feel free to share my eating habits with your DH to bolster your case...
