Baby movement. Not when, but how often.

I searched baby movement and all topics were on WHEN mommas start to feel baby move. I am almost 20 weeks, FTM and have felt baby for the past 3 weeks. My topic is more based on how often you feel baby move? For instance, one day I will feel baby a bunch then for 3 days I'll practically not feel him at all. Naturally I get all worry wart and start to wonder what's going on. Maybe baby just goes into hybernation for a few days lol. I assumed once I started to feel baby that it would happen all the time. Im sure it's normal just wanted to hear from other mommas.

**sorry if my post is a big jumbled. Words aren't coming easily today.

  • I'll be 18 weeks tomorrow and I've only been feeling baby every few days too. I think you're not supposed to start kick counting until maybe 24 weeks when it is more consistent. (I could be off, I don't remember from my first pregnancy)

  • 19 weeks today with my second. I too have been feeling him move for a few weeks. Some days he can be really active and others I might get one or two jabs. I spoke with my OB and she said that it is normal and it's possible I'm just not feeling every movement since he's still pretty small.
  • Definitely normal to feel nothing after days this early. Book recommends counting much later in week 28 when you should feel movement everyday. Stress less!

  • I'm 18 weeks and just started feeling baby move earlier this week. So far I've been feeling her move a couple of times a day!

  • I think I'm just being greedy, I wanna feel baby all day! That's all lol
  • It's different for every baby.  I carried as a surro last time and that baby moved more than my 3 combined.

  • I've had a lot go on this pregnancy and think I'm still just worried something will go wrong. So just waiting for the time to feel baby all the time, just wanting the reassurance.

Things always sounds much better in my head, then I try typing. Fail!! Ha
  • It sporadic at first. As baby gets bigger you will feel baby more consistently. You can try eating something with sugar and lying on your left side. That's what they recommend to count fetal kicks when you are further along.

I love this book, so useful. Especially for FTMs like OP. Answers all my questions.

I do feel more when laying on my left side so anytime I worry I try that.

  • I'm pretty sure it explains that in the week to week updates on this website. actually I'm pretty sure I watched it in one of the videos recently.
  • The video I watched here showed baby moving visibly on the outside of the belly at like 18 weeks. Which I'm pretty sure is inaccurate.

I started getting outside movement on Sunday at 17 weeks 6 days. Not to the same degree as the video but I get little thumps throughout the day.

I feel baby move all day but don't track or anything. Sometimes it's nonstop, sometimes there's an hour or two between movement. I'm 18 weeks 5 days today. I honestly just got lucky, as that's early.
  • I'm 19 weeks and don't even know if I have felt my baby yet, sometimes I think I have but who really knows. :D

Everyone is different so people feel baby at different times and all babies are different so they move different too!

Everything I've read online, in books, and on this forum say that's normal! :D

  • I believe I've seen some also. What I mean is the video showed like baby rolling all around. Much much more that a small twinge in the skin.
  • I am feeling baby on inside at 19 weeks but not outside yet. I do have quite a bit of tummy fluff though. When they did the amnio I could see how far the needle had to go to get to my uterus and ya it was a good five inches!!! My DH is hoping to feel baby soon but probably not till about 25 weeks I would guess. When baby is big enough to kick my fat!!
  • My Neice and nephew are over right now and asked to hear the baby with the doppler and baby got super active for a few and saw my belly bounce a good 5 times from kicks, such an amazing experience with them!!! They got so excited :)
