would you mind telling me your experience?
I might be going this route and I am wondering what to expect. The doctor mentioned it to me and I will know more next week depending on the baby's size and if she is gaining weight or has stopped will determine if it needs to be done.
Re: If you were induced.....
I was induced just after 38 weeks because of high blood pressure. I was already 2cm dilated so I didn't go in for cervadil (used to soften the cervix). I went in to the hospital in the morning and they started me on pitocin. It was very gradual, every half hour they would turn it up. The contractions got painful but not excruciating. After 2 hours they broke my water and that's when it really started to hurt so I got my epidural which was wonderful! I was ready to push after 3.5 hours on the pitocin and I pushed for over an hour. The pushing was the worst part for me, but I now know that I have a narrow pelvis.
I would (and will) do it again.
Let us know what happens at the next appt.
Thank you Leanna and Lauren
I read some horror stories about people being in labor for over 24 hours with an induction so I was getting a little scared.
Stacey, good luck at your next appt.....I find out next Monday at my weekly what the plan is...at first I was scared about the whole thing but I am getting so uncomfortable....I can't sleep, I got my heartburn back and felt like my throat was on fire all night and I am just miserable...I want this baby out!! lol
I was induced the day of my 39 week appointment because of high blood pressure. They started me on cervadil that night and then the next morning they put me on pitocin and broke my water. The contractions started almost immediately and it wasn't long before I needed an epi. I ended up getting stuck at 5-6cm around 5pm that night and it was ruled out that Mikey was stuck and I'd need a c-section. If I would have known that would be the end result I would not have chosen to be induced and would have opted for a c-section immediately. Not everyone that gets induced ends up in a c-section though, but its smart to read up on c-sections ahead of time so that you aren't surprised if they end up telling you that you need to go that route, I wish I would have done this myself but the induction was a surprise to me.
Best of luck!!!
Hale - keep me posted! I totally feel the same way. This whole time I have said that I want to go to my due date and totally wouldn't mind even going to 41 weeks, that whenever the baby was ready to come out was just fine with me. But, like you said, I am sooooo uncomfortable right now. I can hardly sit up, stand up, I also have that burning in my throat like you said (wtf is that anyway??), and is just getting to the point that I am SO ready! LOL
When I went yesterday (and saw a different doc), I was STILL not dilated at all. Very frustrating because I really thought I was going to be atleast a little bit! So when I went to make the next appt. I said I wanted to see my doctor asap because we had discussed inducing me if I got very close to my due date (which, as of tomorrow, will only be like 3 days away). She had said a few weeks back that she may induce me if I get to 40 weeks just because of all the pain I've been having - that there is no reason to keep me in pain any longer than I have to! Amen to that!?
I was induced 8 days past my due date and would not recommend to it anyone. Hated the whole process, totally unnatural and I believe it's what caused me to end up having a c-section. I went in there totally effaced and 3cm dilated!
Whatever you decide to do though, make sure it's what YOU want. Either way you'll be happy to hold her inyour arms soon (and me too-lol)!
I have my birth story on my bio. Please be aware that it wasn't a successful induction, just in case you don't want to read those.
I was scheduled for induction at 41 w 3 days because they were concerned Andrew was getting too big.
I did some natural labor stimulation at home and was having some contractions before they called me into the hospital. When I got there I was already 4 cm so I didn't need cervadil to ripen my cervix. They started pitocin at 5 am. I was 7 cm at 9 am so he broke my water. Andrew was born at 3:11 pm.
GL!
Due to a long story relating to my crappy insurance I had to go thru a failed induction to try to get my c-section covered. I was on a very low dose of Pitocin for 12 hours and it literally drove me insane with panic attacks every hour and gave me one of the most awful migraines I have ever had. Thank God for my doctor getting me a narcotic to stop the migraine and knock me out. I am honestly happy that I had a c-section because I never want to deal with Pitocin EVER AGAIN and look forward to my next baby being a scheduled c-section.
But that was just me. I know it's worked great for other people. I just had a really abnormal reaction.
