meltdown moments

So, I kind of have this fear of lo having a complete meltdown out in public. So far, we've been extremely lucky in that she's sleeping when we go out. However, I took her up to work today, got her out of the carseat and she ended up fussong the entire time, which wasn't long bc I had dh go sit in the car with her. I thought maybe we could share our meltdown stories and how we handled them, if there's the chance that others have anxiety about this too!

When I saw the title I thought this is where I can post MY breakdown moments. LOL Hormonal, chasing after a toddler, breast feeding, pumping, bleeding, dealing with family visiting from out of town and trying to have a happy marriage can cause a few meltdowns!!!

Normally my LO sleeps when out as well. We've only had one major melt down. It was a cousins bday party and LO screamed from the time we got there until we left. It sucked because we rode with other people so I couldn't just leave. There were so many people there and of course since she's a cute baby EVERYONE kept saying, "oh give her to me I am great with babies and I can make her stop crying!" It was at my cousins home so finally I just went into one of her bedrooms and locked the door and breastfed and cuddled her which totally worked (she was clearly over stimulated by so many people.) She cried 80 percent of the 1 hour ride home too. My MIL wouldn't pull the car over so I could take a minute to calm her (because you know- she knows better than me and "she will be fine."

When we got home I bawled my eyes out for like 2 hours. I felt like the worse mom EVER. And I determined right then that we would never carpool again ever. I was livid.

Pips sleeps when we go out as well. However, I fear this weekend. We have two memorial services to go too. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Tomorrow, it's a two hour drive (her longest yet). My folks wanted us to ride with them, but in anticipation of impending doom, we are taking our own car. Like OP, I seriously fear her going full meltdown in public. On the upside, tomorrow's service is at a casino (I have weird friends, lol), not that DH or I gamble, but it'll be some time out of the house, away from my crazy grandmother, even if the occasion is sad. It's truly awful that I am pretending it's like a mini vacation.

OP, I'm with you. I know I could be out a lot more with baby in a carrier or whatever on my errands (and I see fellow new moms doing it all the time) yet I'm paralyzed in fear in being unprepared for something when in public. New parents fears. I'm much more relaxed with DH with me, but if it's going out alone... I still need to practice and conquer it!

DS bawled and wailed all night when we went to our NYE party. Everyone was cool about it and laughed. I ended up getting slightly drunk and laughed it off too! It's no big deal- people are usually very understanding about such things!

I also have this fear!! I took DS to the grocery store a few days ago, DH wasn't feeling well so I didn't want to leave the baby with him so off we went. I was so worried he would have a meltdown but he was fine, he fussed a bit if the cart wasn't moving but otherwise it was ok. We weren't gone long, so that helped. I have also taken him to the doctors for his appt's by myself, but for some reason that is less stressful to me. I need to get out more with him on my own, but it being winter and icy, I haven't had much of a chance.

The closest she's been to a meltdown was averted: I fed her. Granted, it was in a bathroom stall with one leg propped up on the toilet seat & was only a snack... but hey. She settled down until we could get to the car after we finished getting the groceries.

My meltdown was going back to work.
