Flat spot

does anyone else's LO have a bit of s flat spot? My DD is 4 months. Dr recommended naps on tummy and wedging him at night. The problem with using s blanket to wedge is that it came undone. Anyone have experience with this? As he gets older and sits up on his own will his head round out some?

Re: Flat spot

  • We started PT at 2.5 months and it's already rounding out some. I think leap 4 helped since there's a lot of head/brain growth during the leap too. We just did a lotttt of tummy time to the point that she loves it. We also did this one exercise to help strengthen one side of her neck, more time carrying her around. And because the flat spot was more on the side, I was more aggressive to turn her head the other way when laying her down to bed. Sometimes she would stay that way, sometimes she would lay on the spot.

  • My LO had a slightly flat spot at his 4 month. My pedi said not to worry because as they sit up more it goes away.

I always turned his head after he went to sleep, I switched his changing pad up, and tried to hold him so he looked the other way. He also loves tummy time and being upright (jumper, activity center, etc.).

It's been six weeks and his flat spot is nearly gone.

Just work on it some and it will improve!

I asked a similar question last month and got some good responses. You can a search "flat head" and it should come up. If not let me know and I can pass on what I learned. My fave though was the Boppy Noggin Nest which I bought and have been using. :)
Eta: we asked our pedi too, and she said it wasn't too bad for our LO. Variation in positions will help.

Yeah I've been worried about it for some time too but I'll say that in the last 2 weeks (LO is 22wo) he's been on his tummy a lot more for playtime, he started rolling & sleeping on his side or belly & just generally is not on his head near as much as he used to be. At the same time I can tell he's going through a growth spurt BC he is sleeping more and just looks a bit bigger. Anyway, all of this seems to have come together & is very quickly rounding out LO's skull. I was thinking of seeing a specialist wo pedi's order but now I think I'll wait it out.

You could really see DS's at 2 months and we were sent to PT. They basically showed us repositioning and had us do some stretches and lots of tummy time. I think what helped the most is I always laid him down with his head facing the opposite way as the flat spot and lots and lots of tummy time. He prefers to play on his tummy now. His flat spot is nearly gone now.
