Trouble TTC

Thank you from a Lurker

Hi Everyone!

I introduced myself a while ago and then went radio silent. I have been reading a lot of threads though, and I wanted to thank you all for sharing your experiences and advice, it is really so so helpful.

I finally have an experience to share myself - I had my HSG test today, and it was done in office by my OBGYN instead of in a hospital by a radiologist (which saved a lot of money). It is a newer procedure called FemVue where they use saline/air instead of dye to test the tubes. It wasn't so terrible at all, the worst parts were the inserting of the catheter with the tenaculum, and the inflation of the balloon - but even that was so fast you forget about it as soon as it happens. Some general deep breathing and it was all over in less than 20 minutes.

I feel much better knowing that we have a plan now, and being able to rule out issues there before jumping into medicated cycles. The PCOS was confirmed with the ultrasound (which hadn't been before - only diagnosed via exclusion through bloodwork), and everything else looked normal. I am going to start on Metformin this weekend and try to get my body to cycle naturally before we try clomid.

Anyway, thank you again - and good luck to all of you!!

  • welcome back

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

  • Good luck and welcome back!  From someone who has been on Metformin for 4 years, just be aware that you can have some stomach issues in the beginning so don't be alarmed if you start having to run to the bathroom quickly... But it does go away or at least it did for me and my cycle regulated itself nicely.

  • @hrushka Sorry! I know better than to do that, didn't mean to make it seem that way. And actually, after I posted I saw the Thankful Thursday thread, so I probably should have just posted in there instead of starting a whole new one. Next time I will do better. :-)

@Cupcakegal930 Thanks for the heads up. My OB mentioned the diahrea but the pharmacist played it off like it was uncommon. From what I had read on here I was aware of the stomach issues to, so that's what I am prepared for and why I am waiting to start the medicine until this weekend. Do you have any diet tips or anything else that work for you? I know to avoid sugar, just wondering if there is more that I should be aware of.

  • Well I'm a type II diabetic so I avoid anything white really.  No white rice, white bread and for pasta I eat Dreamfields brand which is low on the glycemic index and doesn't spike my sugar.  I worked with a nutritionist for a while and now I just do a lot of carb counting, it becomes like second nature after a while.  The hardest thing for me to remember was to actually count my veggies and fruits as carbs even though they are "good" carbs they still count.  I have my weak moments like when my DH brings ice cream home or when I get a craving for potato chips lol.  Everything in moderation though..

  • Welcome back. Good luck with starting on the Metformin!
  • Welcome back, another one to watch with Metformin: high carbs, greasy or high fat foods will sometimes cause the stomach issues even after the initial getting used to it phase. I've been on it for a while now and still have the times where something fatty will make me to rush to the bathroom.

I was also told to keep checking my B vitamin levels as long term Metformin use can cause some issues there. Don't know how common that is because it's not mentioned much that I can find, and the naturopath could just be blowing smoke up my ass.

    Good luck.

  • Welcome back! Good luck adjusting to the Metformin. I echo what @RufflesaurusRex‌ said about certain foods triggering the upset stomach after you are used to it. I will say, though, it has made my cycle extremely regular. Before, I never knew when AF would start due to my PCOS. It makes scheduling RE appointments much easier.

  • So I took my first pill this morning and I have been afraid to do anything just waiting for the ball to drop on feeling sick. So far nothing and I'm feeling kind of stupid. How long does it usually take for symptoms to show? Ugh! I don't want to start my errands and be stuck without a bathroom. lol
