Pregnant after 35

I'm almost half way and I have 0 names!

I have thought about baby names for about 5 minutes. Isn't that horrible?  I've been so busy with work and holidays and kids at home.. I just literally haven't given it a second thought!  Now that I am thinking about it.. I have NO clue! I know there's a baby name board but honestly it wasn't really that insightful.  There's a lot of normal names and a lot of really strange names. lol  Ugh. Maybe I should just be like a celebrity and the next object I look at .. that's what we'll name our baby. lol  DH is NO help either.  Everytime I ask him he either says something awful that I can't stand or he says 'I dunno babe'... helpful!

Re: I'm almost half way and I have 0 names!

  • You have a bunch of time.  No need to panic yet.. lol.  Hey at least you started thinking now, huh?  Where did you get inspiration for your other kids?

For our LO's middle name, we decided to take at look at H's maternal family tree.  We like a variation of one name that appears several times.  Except that the person who most recently had the name was an abusive drunk!  So now we have to get clearance from MIL to use it.  I don't know what we're going to do if she's really offended by it.  We only have 2 months to go, so I'm a little nervous.
  • Loading the player...
  • We had a boy name picked out from the start. We just knew LO was going to be a boy. After 3 girls it had to be right? Wrong. lol We found out at 18mths LO was another girl. We were out of girl names and just knew we'd never think of a name. But thankfully that afternoon we came up with one. You'll figure it out!

  • Lol at least I'm not alone! Names are so hard with my DH because he never likes anything that I like. He's so difficult!

My fave girl name is Emma Reese. My only conflict is that I work closely with a lady whose daughter is Emma. I work with another girl who is due next week and they are meNjng her Emma Nicole. But I also thought maybe infant care because it's not like we are related or hang out on weekends.

Our fave boy name is Ryan Christopher but I'm not really sold. I really love Caleb but DH says no one. His face is Jackson but he has a cousin named Jackson and my BFF's oldest is a Jackson. And I obviously see him all the time. She doesn't care but not sure I'm sold on it.

My sons name is Collin Bradley. Literally it was the ONLY boy name we agreed on! My daughters name is Olivia Grace. I was flipping thru a parents magazine and saw it in an ad for birth announcements. My DH's favorite grandfathers name was Oliver so we liked the thought of Olivia for a girl. We call her Livy.

DH is a pain with family names too. He thinks it's the husbands job to pass along family names and refuses to use anyone in my family. I love Charles. My brothers name is Charlie and my grandfathers name was Charlie. My dads middle name is Chaelie. But DH says no. Terd!!

When our Emma Grace was born on Sept 11th back in 2002 there were 2 or 3 other Emma Graces born. And it was a small women's hospital. Apparently they had named their daughter that on Friends? Cause the pediatric dr asked if I loved Friends. And when I went down to get her in the nursery I asked for Emma Grace and the nurses looked at me stone faced and said "which room #? We have 3 (or 4) with that name."
Then we have since gone to 2 different schools in 2 different states with girls her age named Emma Grace.
I just wanted something classic and old fashioned. Lol

  • You are definitely not alone!  DH and I thought we had a name picked out, but now I've changed my mind and I don't like it anymore.  DH keeps pushing one specific name, which I don't care for, so I've agreed that can be the middle name, but that still leaves us to figure out a first name.  I just keep telling myself we've got plenty of time (I'm 19 weeks), so I'm not stressing about it too mush yet.  I am sure we will figure it out in time - and so will you!

My biggest frustration is DH.  He literally likes nothing and everything he does like.. I hate. lol It's horrible!

  • This will be a struggle for us once again.  My DH and I do NOT agree on names.  Evelyn Violet was the name we finally settled on for our first daughter (together, I had previous kids)  and Evelyn was the ONLY girl name we both liked.  We could be in big trouble if we are having another girl.
    Good Luck!

  • When I was born my parents had planned for one name but they thought I looked like a different name so that's what they went with. I guess you just don't know. Even if you know. And I love my name. Would not have been happy with their original choice.
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April

  • The right name will come. Dh and i both have a first name we like so now it's just deciding between the two. Her middle name will be Marie after my late mother
  • Oh my we have no idea what to name out baby!! It is making me crazy! We have 3 girls already and this one is a girl also. So I feel like we have used all of them up. Lol! I am so picky about names. We had a hard time with girl #3! I keep asking my hubby and he is like I don't know! Help! Lol!

    BabyFruit Ticker

  • BabyBliss76 lol My hubby is the same way. He either has no input or he hates what I've suggested.

It's kind of funny because I've been kicking around some names with one of my girlfriends but I haven't told him about any of them.  Instead, I made a list of girls and boys and I left it on the counter.  A couple days went by. I said nothing.  I knew he probably read it.  One of the boy names that my friend and I really liked was Finn.  I think I wrote down Finn Patrick.  I also wrote down Everett.  He texts me a lot during the day because he's a truck driver so on his down time when he's waiting for a load or whatever.. he'll text me.  He's never mentioned names at all.  He got home about 7:30 last night. First thing out of his mouth.. he looks at me and says Finn.. really??  I just had to laugh. It was so funny  Like he'd been stewing about it and just couldn't wait to ask me.  He's like that's awful and there's no way any kid of mine will be named Finn.  Then it's like silence.. I said nothing.. i just laughed.. so a few minutes go by and he's like oh and not Everett either. LOL

On a positive note.. I did suggest Carson or Carter yesterday for a boy and he did seem to like that. We really only liked the name Ryan and I like Ryan but our last name is so boring that I feel like I don't want a boring first name too.

  • @niknak1208 Yes, most of the names I have suggested my hubby does not like. Which is not many! But then when he says yuck, I am like so what do you like...he says I don't know!! I am like just tell me something!!!! Lol!

I like Carter and Ryan! If you have any good girl names that you want to share send them my way!! Lol! :)

  • Don't stress...many patients don't have names even after they deliver.. They take a day or two to be with baby and it always works out
  • We were at the hospital with the book "10,000 names" my dr saw it while I was in labor and made fun of us (nicely). He didn't have his full name until 3 days after birth.

  • @BabyBliss76. My fave girl name is Emma Reese. My hubby likes Emma Kathryn better. He actually prefers Emily. His fave is Kathryn but I had a horrid boss named Kathryn at my last job and that's just not happening. Lol.

I also liked Emrie but he hates it. I like Jillian too but he hates that too of course.

  • Like @JimBobCooter, we a agreed on a name in a moment.  Before that moment, we couldn't agree on anything!!  From the beginning, we had a boy name picked but then we found out it was a girl and that threw us.  Then one day, my hubby suggested the name and I fell in love with it instantly.  I know alot of people will have a handful of names as options and wait until they meet baby to finally decide on the name.

Good luck and try not to worry, it'll come when the time and name is right! :)

@niknak1208 I already have a daughter named Emma! She is my first born and I just LOVED that name! I have been thinking about Kathryn, but my hubby does not like it!! Lol!! To funny :)

    BabyFruit Ticker

  • BabyBliss76 That is too funny!  I love Emma. I know it's really popular and I usually don't go for really popular names but it's definitely my top choice.  Initially, I was thinking we shouldn't use it because I work with a girl who's daughter is Emma and another girl who just had a baby and was going to name her Emma.  But the girl who just had a baby went with Elizabeth instead. Not that it really matters but that made me happy. lol  My daughter's name is Olivia and we call her Livy. My son's name is Collin.  I just thought Emma fit.  :)

I actually really like Kathryn but my old boss ruined it for me. I used to love Kate for short but that's what everyone called her and she's an evil evil woman. lol

He's still stuck on Ryan for a boy.  But I'm kind of stuck on Carson.  I like Carson Andrew.  i think that kind of fits with our other kids too.

  • My son's name is a combo of my ex-husband and myself. I absolutely love it but it took months of convincing frome me. We didn't decide until 1 month before he was born. In order to accept the first name, I had to agree to give him 2 middle names. As it turns out, the 3rd name (which I hated) has been dropped naturally by forms

  • @niknak1208 Yes, Emma is really popular! I did not know it would be so popular 10 years ago. Lol! I must say that my 10 year old tells me all the time that she loves her name :) I try to go for names that are not so popular also, but classic. It seems like a lot of the older names are becoming pretty hot again. Olivia is a very pretty name it has been tossed around my head. I really what an older name that is not to long. My girls are Emma, Audrey, and Lila. I hope we figure something out soon, because it makes me stressed! Lol!

    BabyFruit Ticker

  • My first 2 I had boy and girl names picked out and waiting till my 20 week ultrasound.  my 3rd we decided not to find out gender and I didn't pick names until I was more than 1/2 way through.  Each time it gets a little harder as you already use up so many names!  And I swear each time my husband is harder to deal with and is more picky.  My fourth I didn't really start picking a name until like a month before he was due. My 5th I had a name not long after I found out she was a girl but only because I only had one other girl so I had a name I hadn't used that I had thought of for the others. But I didn't have a middle name until after she was born.  The last couple I purposely waiting till very late...like a month or less till I was due because I didn't want to deal with my husband on picking a name.  He suggests only girls names and only names of girls that were like the popular girls we went to school with.  He hates every boy name all the time. SO I avoid the stress of it all until the end where he is forced to have to decide in a timely manner.
  • LOL, I told my husband I liked Finn and he thought for a second then said, what about Flynn? This is the way of every name with him... I told him I'm sending him for coffee and signing the birth form when he's out of the room. Not really joking.
  • It's so hard isn't it? Then once you do pick a name you have to hear everyone's opinion if and alternative suggestions. Honestly, this go around we just might keep our picks to ourselves until the last minute!
