Breastfeeding

nipple cuts

Has anyone ever breastfed wrong and you ended up with a cut on your nipple? If so was u able to breastfeed again?

Re: nipple cuts

  • I had cracks. Use lots of nipple cream after every feeding it will heal and yes I kept nursing. How old is LO do you have a good latch?

  • Well she just turned 2 in December but I couldn't breastfeed her for long but I'm 14 weeks now and I want to breastfeed this one
  • You can definitely still nurse with cracks. Agree with PP about lanolin, but you can also nurse LO from different positions if you do develop a crack. Adjusting the angle that LO is latching by using different positions will take pressure off the crack and allow it to heal. I never had cracks with my first 2, but did with #3. So, just because it happened with #1 doesn't mean it will definitely happen again. It has more to do with LO than you.

  • I used the lanolin and expressed milk on it but even if it was a bad Crack u still think I could with the new baby?
  • I didn't realize mine had bled until LO threw up some blood (I freaked) so we supplemented with formula for a day I pumped the milk and there wasn't any blood so I went back to nursing. You can still nurse just load your nipples up with the lanolin it will help immensely.

You can definitely nurse the new LO. My crack was super bad (the nipple was split right down the middle) but I continued to BF and pumped instead for a few days while it was healing. I can BF just fine now, even though I actually have a slight scar. Because it happened with #3, I was determined to continue since I had successfully nursed both of my first two.
