3rd Trimester

Questions about weight

So, Ill be 30 weeks on Sunday,. and I have not gained a single pound. (Yay me). I haven't been counting calories or anything like that- and not limiting myself. Just trying not to eat junk. Also, i have been very very sick- kidney stones, had surgery on a strangulated hernia, you name it. This pregnancy has been a nightmare. BUT I am pretty excited that I haven't gained any weight. Ive actually lost about 5 pounds since my first doctors appointment. Im pretty overweight to start with- I'm 5"6 and right now at 30 weeks I weight 198. Has anyone experienced this?? Am I gonna drop a bunch of weight after I deliver, or is that just wishful thinking?? I feel like with the weight "gain" of the baby, and placenta and all that, that maybe I'm gonna drop a bunch of weight in the months after I have the baby. buy maybe thats wishful t thinking. Hahaha

Sorry to hear you've had such a challenging pregnancy. Just FYI, these types of posts don't usually go over too well (especially not-so-humble brags) since weight gain is a very personal and individual thing. Talk to your doc about it.

  • It's normal to not seem to gain weight (even lose weight) if you start off "overweight". You tend to lose weight around the same rate as gaining so it appears like you don't really gain any extra pounds. I'm about 30 weeks, had hyperemesis, and remained rather active during the first two trimesters and experienced the same thing you have. As long as the baby and you are healthy, it's nothing to worry about, and if you do worry, then talk to your doctor. Other than that, just enjoy the luck and aim to have a healthy sized baby at the end of it all.
  • Congrats I guess? If your doctor's good with your lack of weight gain, I guess that's good.

With DS, I lost about 15-20 lbs within the first few weeks after he was born, so that may happen to you.

But I'll agree with PPs that this post comes off as a little braggy.
  • Guess what? I gained weight :)
  • My aunt was overweight during her pregnancy and she only gained 7 pounds. Her theory was that the baby is just feeding off of your store of nutrients and what not. If you doc hasn't said anything i'm sure your fine. Its not a requirement that you gain weight.

  • Way to come of super braggy and asshatish OP. Weight gain is a huge issue for many pregnant women and your post just rubbed it in many of their faces.  Good for you. Yes it is very normal for someone who is overweight to no gain during pregnancy.  I have GD and I've only gained 3 lbs this entire pregnancy. I spoke with my doc as I was actually worried and they told me since I started the pregnancy 20 lbs overweight my little guys is eating of my excess fat deposits.  No sure why you needed to post this on not just your BMB and the tri boards.  Might I suggest you apologize for the blatant brag.

  • If you start off that much over weight you are not supposed to gain much if any.
