in 2nd Trimester
I've been seeing my ob/gyn for years now but now that I'm pregnant, I think I may have a problem. My doctors office is 30 mins from my home, which is not bad for checkups, but the hospitals that they deliver to are 30-40 minutes from my home and farther from my job. I'm not sure what to do. Should I plan to got o a hospital closer to me where I won't be with my doctor or go to the hospital that is further away so I can have my doctor. Any thoughts?

    Go to the further hospital with your dr. Especially if this is your first, you'll likely have plenty of time.

    Thanks! I like my doctor but I wanted to get opinions because this is my first time. My DH is very concerned and I just have to convince him.

    The hospital I delivered DS at was 30 minutes from home without traffic and an hour or more with.

    I had no issues making the drive once labor started. 30 minutes is really nothing.

    I'm an hour from my OB and hospital. It's worth it to me to keep my doctor and deliver at a hospital that is on the same page as I am about zero-to-minimal intervention

    The closest hospital was about 30 minutes away if I was driving. Had I needed to get there when no one else was home I would have had a nice long bus ride. I don't see a problem. For my next pregnancy I am considering a doctor and hospital that is over an hour away.

    I really don't think 30 minutes is far atl. Labor is a really long process, 30 minutes is a drop in the ocean for how long it will eventually take to deliver.

    With DD1, the hospital I delivered at was 45 minutes away.  Our insurance was only good in the state next to ours so that was where my doctor was.  Total labor that time was 6 hours.  With DD2, we used the same doctor and the same hospital.  Total labor with that one was 4 hours.  We really got lucky because we woke DD1 up at 5am to take her with us to the hospital and it just worked out that my mom and sister were able to meet us there in time to watch DD1 during delivery.  This time, we are going with a doctor and hospital 10 minutes from home.  With 2 other kiddos and DH working an hour away, trying to juggle everyone with a short labor seems like a nightmare itself, didn't need to throw in a mini road trip too.

    I'm in a similar situation. My doctor is part of a group that has an office 10 minutes away from my house. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and was just told I would have to start going to his other office from now on, which is 30-40 minutes away. It's a bitch of a drive, but I don't want to switch doctors at this point. I was also told that if I have to be induced for labor, I will need to go to the hospital that is 40 minutes away. If I go into labor early, I can go to the hospital I originally wanted to (10 minutes away), but I will end up with whichever Dr is on call that night. It's really annoying, but I'm willing to make the long drive because I really like and trust my Dr.

    Since it's your first I'd definitely go with whatever makes you the most comfortable as a situation.
    I'm 1.5 hours away from my doctor and hospital (up to 2.5 hours in bad traffic) but it's completely worth it since I know and trust my OB (she was amazing during my first pregnancy). The big thing is to prepare for the drive in pretty much any traffic condition and consider your comfort and safety for the trip. It's unlikely that you'll go into labor and need immediate attention (unless you're later diagnosed otherwise by your doctor), so a 30-40 min drive might be annoying but still doable. And remember, if there is a real emergency there's always the closer one.
