Shopping

So I'm having a boy!!! I can officially go shopping...What are some of the thigns you are stocking up on are buying before your baby shower. I know I should , but I just want to go on a shopping spree for clothes....LOL I know most people get that at the baby shower, so what are some of the things I can get now?

Husband and I plan on putting our crib, stroller, pack and play and soothing glider on layaway this weekend from BabiesRUs. Those are kinda the big things expect for the baby monitor, breastfeeding pump system, and glider. We should have done it sooner.

A good name brand diapers and wipes do you all plan on using? I know some babies will be sensitive to certain stuff, but I will keep all receipts if I have to return. Sorry for discussion so choppy, I'm just excited.

Re: Shopping

  • Your post made me think of the "Lions and Tigers and Bears" scene from the wizard of Oz...I could just feel the excitement!
Don't go too crazy you will get a lot at your shower. I would buy a good amount of onesies in all different sizes, don't just stick with the small sizes. Then lots of comfy zip up sleepers. Zip ups are the best because snaps while sleep deprived at night are insane.
I stick with pampers they were great with my kids and neither ever got a diaper rash or anything. But each baby is different. Socks are also something good to pick up that are often forgotten. Best of luck!

  • I have known I have a boy since 18 weeks, and I have been DYING to buy stuff. So far I have been good and just gotten a Blackhawks jersey (Chicago Hockey <3), but I want to buy little baby bow ties and shoes sooooooo bad!

As for the big things, I am not sure how your family is, but my aunts and uncles asked me to put some big things on the registry so they could all go in on a gift together and get us something we otherwise would have more trouble paying for alone. I know my grandparents are planning to do the same as well. AND check with your health insurance (if you have one) for the breast pump. It's the law now that insurance covers it. Different plans cover different things, but mine covers a brand new dual pump as long as I buy through them (others only cover renting, etc.).

For diapers, I am going with pampers. This is my first but my SIL has had 3 and swears by them. They offer sensitive versions of diapers and wipes so if you do run into that problem you can always switch to the sensitive!

  • I agree with @Starbuck128‌ on the wipes, while I stuck with pampers for diapers I bought whatever wipes were on sale. I did notice the unscented always seemed to be less irritating on my sons behind.

  • Thanks for the advice...I put the big things on registry but I do not expect our aunts and uncles to do that, we we are going to take the repsonsibility on buying the big items. My parents will purchase a big item and I'm sure his parents will do the same.
  • Congrats that its a boy, but why does this change your shopping if you aren't going to buy clothes? I had already registered before I found out I was having a boy, and I haven't changed any of my registry items.

And personally I looked for deals on ALL of my registry items (not just the big ticket ones). If I found something for a good price I snatched it up. Then removed it from my registry. For example, I found a new bouncer for $15, regularly $50 and an Ergo and a Moby Wrap and a bath (brand new spa bath for $10, regularly $50). People will either buy me something that is still left on there, or a random item, which I can hopefully return if I don't need.

Also, things you will need, but won't get at the registry are boring items such as your recovery items and new baby items: lanoline, reusable breast pads, gripe water, gas drops, saline drops, first aid kid, nursing clothes ect...

Thanks x100. Gripe water and infant Tylenol were the only things we ever needed a midnight run for.

  • If you are really wanting to buy clothes, you could pick out a special take home outfit, and maybe one outfit/gown for him to wear in the hospital (though, I think I just kept the girls swaddled up with out clothes on in for the most part....)
Also, you could think about making some thing for the baby, just to occupy yourself when you are going through a nesting phase.

  • @nbuczek‌: The first thing I bought was a Blackhawks outfit. That was even before we knew we were having a boy.
