Trouble TTC

Septum resection

I have a septate uterus and am having my septum removed at the end of the month. Any one undergone this procedure? What was your experience? How long did you have to wait after before you started TTC?

Hi! I had the procedure to resect my complete septum in November of 2012, I was able to proceed with IUI in December (it was BFN) and then moved on to a successful IVF in May.

The procedure itself was not too terrible, just gas pains in the shoulder and lower abdomen afterwards. Still 100% the right choice to have it resected, my RE said that because it was complete I would have an incredibly high chance of miscarriage/2nd tri loss otherwise. Let me know if you have any more questions and good luck!

  • Thank you so much for your reply @westendtexan ! It is so wonderful to know there is some one else out there :) Did your doctor suggest there would be any additional complications to your pregnancy because of the resection? Did you have any other worries during the pregnancy? Was your septum the only thing keeping you from having a successful pregnancy? My doctor doesn't seem to think I have to have an IUI or IVF after- is there a reason you did? Sorry if that is too personal. I have so many questions and no one to talk to :/

    *ALL THE WARNINGS AGAIN**

My RE was confident that after my uterus healed from the resection that there would be no reason I wouldn't be able to carry normally.

Of course, anyone post IF has worries during a pregnancy, I'm sure. Especially because I was initially pregnant with twins, but lost one at 12 weeks. I was a nervous wreck the entire time even though after the initial shock wore off after losing baby B, I had a perfectly normal text book wonderful pregnancy.

As my siggy states, I was dx with annovulatory lean PCOS. I did not ovulate on my own. The reason we only did 1 IUI is because I was either way under-responding or way over-responding. We couldn't find my IUI stim "sweet spot" as it were. Since we were 100% OOP anyways, my DH, RE and I decided we could proceed to IVF. I got pg on our first FET.
