I am meeting with a potential in-home child care provider tomorrow and looking for advice on what to ask. I only have experience with day care centers so this is all new territory for me. My LO will be about 8 weeks when we start there. TIA!
I think you ask all the same stuff you would with a center (safety stuff, schedule, references, meals, where they sleep, etc.), plus ask about time off/what happens if she's sick, and licensing stuff. Here in CA you can call the state agency that oversees family daycares and find out when the last inspection was and whether there have been any violations and complaints.
BFP #1 9/2010 (lost our baby at 21 weeks)
BFP #2 8/2011 (ectopic pregnancy)
BFP #3 10/2011 (chemical pregnancy)
BFP #4 12/2011 (Abigail born 8/15/12)
BFP #5 5/2013 (Griffin born 1/23/14 with heart defects, now repaired!)
1.)are you certified to legally work in the us. 2.) I'm planning to report your income to the IRS. You ok with that? 3.) how much housework can you do. (Describe exactly what you want done). 4.) are you usually on time? 5,) what would your former employer say if I called them. 6.) how do you handle toddler tantrums? 7.) how do you handle a baby who won't nap? 8.) are you available for the hours I need you? 9.) why do you want to be a nanny?
Eta: sorry, I thought this was a nanny question. Oops
I'd ask about tv policy (is tv ever on), also who has access to the house during the day, or their kids, spouse. Would those people be around your kid.

This. Our in-home provider gave us an informational packet as well as a copy of the contract at our first meeting so that we would have all the information, whether or not we decided to use her (obviously we did).

The same for ours. The biggest thing (which I wish I would've asked)- in an event where she is sick or an emergency comes up, does she have a back-up care provider to take her place? How many children does she watch? Does she potty train?
