Name advice?

Hi All. I'm new to these discussion boards, but I was really hoping for some advice. My husband and I are trying to finalize our baby girl's name. We love the first name Gwen. (We've toyed with some of the longer versions of the name, such as Gwyneth or Guinevere, but we like the nick name more.) We are working on picking a middle name after one of my husband's family members. The initials we have to work with are H, F, S, or A. We've been liking the name Gwen Harper, however our last name begins with a B, which we JUST realized would make her initials GHB. :-/ Does this mean we shouldn't use Harper? (cue tearing hair out) All middle name suggestions are welcome and much appreciated!!

Our daughter's is going to be PBA. And all I can think of is Pro Bowling Association. LOL!
But I like the PP suggestions. Gwen is a very pretty name.

I didn't know what GHB was, but given the meaning, I can see your concern.

Is there a family name you can use and not just the initial?

I guess I honestly don't understand how a middle name that starts with the same letter as someone elses middle name honors that person at all. What about using that persons middle name? If someone else in your family has the initials GHB then that would make more sense. I just think anything shy of actually using their name isn't honoring at all. Our top boys name starts with an A, but it doesn't in any way honor my SIL who's name starts with an A, nor will they have some cosmic connection because of it. You know what I mean?

I really like Gwen but prefer it as a nickname for Gwyneth and Gwendolyn. I really like the nickname Winnie also. Lately I've developed a crush on Quinn for a girl. I think if you choose a longer name it gives her more options and something to say when people ask her for the umpteenth time what Gwen is short for. It will be totally natural to go exclusively by Gwen with either of these longer names, no one will bat an eye.

Harper is trendy, but I think anything goes in the middle name slot.

Gwendolyn Harper is sweet! I didn't have any idea what GHB was, and I doubt most people will. The vast majority of people she meets will never know her middle name either. But if it bothers you, choose something else.

Just wanted to say I love the full name Gwen. It was one of our top choices, but since our DD1 is Quinn, it just doesn't work for this (or future) LO's name.

FWIW, I think Gwen Harper has a nice ring to it, and I didn't make the connection to the drug.

I wouldn't worry about the association. GHB was popular so long ago. I hardly ever hear it referenced

I am with others in not associating the initials with the 'drug' so, if that helps. And I seriously doubt her school-friends would make the connection (which is what you're actually worried about when you think of it). So if you like the name, go for it.

Also, since she IS a girl, the last initial will likely change one day, and you'll have no control over that :P So...there's that.
