Increasing supply?

So I've done a lot of research on increasing my breastmilk supply and the consensus seems to mostly be constant pumping.. Which is great except I don't seem to be producing more than approx 6 extra ounces per day.
Are there any foods or supplements you took that helped boost your supply?
A few weeks ago I broke my back in several places, and as it turns out I've got pretty severe osteoporosis and we're not really sure why for such a young person. (I'm 26) With that being said I'm pretty paranoid I'll break something else, and I've continued to delay surgery because baby bean isn't quite ready for solids.

Thanks!

Re: Increasing supply?

  • I'm guessing you want to pump extra so you can go through surgery? I eat oatmeal, drink extra water, and make sure to eat plenty of calories when I want to up supply. If supply is stressing you out, you might consider giving formula only temporarily to make up the difference in your freezer stash. As long as you pump at corresponding times (even if you have to dump) you should be able to resume BFing when you're out of the hospital and off the non-BFing-friendly drugs.

  • I'm eating Brewers yeast and oatmeal, they seem to help. I'm sorry about your back. After breaking my arm I couldn't imagine how hard that must be. You're a super hero for a mom!
  • Goats rue tincture really helps me. Also water and oatmeal every day.
  • Thanks mommas :-)
  • I'm sorry I just realized I never answered some questions! I'm just worried I'll break something else and not be able to feed. I had just enough stored up to last 24 hours while the pain medication was still in my system. I've got at least one surgery ahead of me so I'd like to have at least a few day worth post op while I pump in dump. TBH I just really love breastfeeding and would hate to see it go :-)
