Unfinished Bottle Clarification

So I know it's been established that a bottle of breastmilk that LO did not take all of can be offered again at the next feeding. However, I'm not clear on how long it's okay to save it for and should it be refrigerated in between (and then rewarmed when it is offered again)? LO had a 3 oz bottle and only drank 2 oz. He typically only gets one bottle a day, as I BF for all feedings except for when DH gives him a bottle of pumped milk in the evening. Should I just chalk up the remaining ounce as a loss and toss it or is it safe to use tomorrow?

Re: Unfinished Bottle Clarification

  • Not an expert, but I go by the rule if it's been warmed and baby has drank from the bottle any remaining milk is only good for one hour.

  • I exclusively pump and my LO likes cold milk so if I take a bottle out of the fridge and he doesn't finish it I pop it back into the fridge and make sure it's used within 4-6 hours. I never have had to toss any. Not sure about warmed milk.

This is what I live by. But it seems as though there is a lot of grey area with this issue. I think it's better safe than sorry. Don't want to make LO sick over an oz.
