Feeling like your heart is racing sometimes?

Since last Friday on and off I've felt like my pulse is "racing". It's not caused my overly exerting myself or anything, and I'm not really anxious or nervous about anything when it happens, I can just be sitting watching TV. When it feels like that I'll check my heart rate and it's usually around 102-108 beats per minute which is a bit high. Has anyone else experienced this? I know there's more blood pumping through our veins right now, but it's just such and odd feeling. If it persists I'll call my OB to see if he has any insight. Just thought I'd throw the question out there in the mean time.

  • And pardon my ticker - I'm still fighting to get it updated from my last pregnancy. I'll be 13 weeks tomorrow.

  • Pretty sure a faster pulse is normal in pregnancy. I'm 15 weeks and just started noticing the funny feeling more, like you described. I get tired easily too from doing too much.

I've had palpitations as well... I notice them when I'm laying down or sitting on the couch and I'm still. It almost feels like my heart is going to beat out of my chest.  I have a pulse rate monitor on my phone and my normal heart rate is about 65 or 70, but when I check it when I feel my heart racing, it's about 95.  I've read that it's normal during pregnancy.  Like the pp said, I'd run it past your doctor though.
I had no idea pulse rate monitor existed for the phone! I'm downloading one now to see if my counting has been accurate. Calling the doc is of course on the horizon. I feel like I've heard it could be pregnancy induced anemia too. We'll see what he says. It's nice to see I'm not the only one though

  • Normal during pregnancy. It's due to your increased blood volume.

this for me too. Apparently it is a
    fairly common symptom of pregnancy.

I get these too. I chalked it up to being pregnant. It's not to the point where im worried so.. lol I tend to not over think things though
  • Ditto to many pp. I only notice it when I'm at rest watching TV or reading. It only lasts for a few seconds then goes away. Good luck and let us know what your doc says!
  • Glad to hear this may be normal because I've been dealing with the same thing plus palpitations.
  • I feel this way a lot, I'm super active and workout several days a week. I've had to really monitor my heart rate to make sure I'm not pushing it too much.
  • I've been dealing with this too.  Usually when I walk up my stairs, I'll need to take a pause.  Now that could be pregnancy OR the fact that I'm a bit out of shape.  I'll take pregnancy. :)
  • I have experienced racing heart occasionally especially in first trimester. It usually happened after eating in the morning and lasted an hour or so. Not a good feeling. My doctor told me it's very normal due to blood volume and your body working to digest food. I've also had heart palpitations about 4 times. They only last about five seconds and happen when sitting down.
  • Not sure if it's a typical symptom, but I feel this way after having too much sugar. I've ended up with gestational diabetes in both pregnancies.
