BTDT Moms: Car Seat Covers

This -20 windchill Boston is experiencing today is making me think more about car seat covers. I'm looking for a shower cap style, but I'm seeing a few different types. Some are open around the face, some have a clear visibility panel, some zip around- can the kids even breathe with these?

Does anyone have one they love and would recommend? Will the hospital let you leave with this over the car seat? Are they safe?

I love it and it seemed to keep DD very warm. I would either take it off or unzip the top in the car. It's shower cap style so it was really easy to take on and off and it doesn't go between the child and the buckles.

We used the JJ Cole Car Seat Covers (shower cap style- not the BundleMe) with our twins and will do the same with this baby. They are safe.

I got the shower cap style, but all of my Boston friends who already have babies have the BundleMe style. I was under the impression that there should be nothing between your baby's back and the car seat straps. I can't recall where I heard this - can anyone confirm?

Edit: I think the BundleMes are meant to be great for a stroller set up though. I'm a worrier about safety.

@monbon11 you are correct, the bundleme should not be used in a car seat.

We have the JJ Cole shower cap style one that we used with DD and will use with this one as well. We would put her in the seat, place a blanket over her and then zip up the cover. It has a flap that you can put up while you are outside. Once we were in the car we would flip the flap down. On cool days, we would skip the extra blanket. The nice thing was that the cover helped keep the blanket it place, even in the wind.

i have the bundle me that I used with my son. He was totally secure in there and I am using it again with the new baby. It was super warm and when i was walking outside you can pull it up to cover their faces.

We have one similar to @misshart00‌ from Wal-Mart and I really like it. It's reversible too, we keep the fleece side on the inside. Very easy to put on and off.

We have the whole caboodle from carseatcanopy.com as well as the bunting bag from JJ Cole. She should be pretty cozy with all of that

I think this is the most united any group has ever been on one product! Thanks for the reccomendations- it's also available on Amazon for $13 (in beige) with prime shipping.

I have a cover from when my first son was born but it doesn't want to stretch over my Keyfit 30. I will probably just get the JJ Cole one. It looks nice.

I have what @misshart00‌ has for the girls, so far I like them but since the girls are so small, I have to maneuver the flap a little for the face hole to be at the right height.

I bought a handmade shower cap style cover at a craft show this fall. It has one zipper down the middle and velcro for the face flap. I plan to open the flap once we're in the car. As far as I know these are safe because they aren't going between the straps and baby or behind baby.

We had the shower cap style for DS. I never used it though, I think my mom forgets that while she lives in cold Upstate NY, we live in warm TX.

We live in Texas too. Think we will just use a blanket to cover her up when we are out and about.

The KeyFit 30 we got has a little attachable "boot" that will go over the feet, legs, belly, and chest. I got one of the carseat canopy things to block the wind. If she needs a little more warmth on those subzero days, I'll just cover her lap with a blanket under the "boot".
