Sick baby

Have any of your LO's gotten sick? What did they have and what did your dr do for them? My toddler has a virus, not the flu she was tested, and bronchitis. Now my 2 month old has a fever of 99.5. Which I guess is a low grade fever. I brought her in to the dr today and she was negative for the flu. He did a CBC which was elevated. He said her throat was red and she was congested. He didn't send us home with any prescriptions though or any direction if her fever continued. He just said she's coming down with something and is in the early stages. I just really don't know what to do. I just feel like he should have done more. The nurse told me if she gets a fever of 101.5 to bring her back in. Everything I read on Google says 100.4 bring them in. Should I get a second opinion? I just feel like with an infant so young he would do more.

Re: Sick baby

  • I was told 100.4 is the number you don't wanna reach. I thought my baby was feeling kinda hot the other day and it was 99.1. We had no problems taking rectal temp but we did use lube (surgical grade stolen from the hospital).

I've been feeding her more frequently so she gets more pee diapers to hopefully ward off whatever cold I thought she was getting. Also the saline boogie wipes are awesome.

  • Our doc advises the emergency room if fever is 100.4 or higher.

My nephew had lifelong disabilities due to a fever caused by meningitis at 3 months of age, so we don't mess around with stuff like that.

  • Definitely watch the fever. Do you know if they checked for RSV also? It can be tested from the flu swab.

  • I was just on the phone with the on call pedi. and was told 100.4. Pips has been running at around 99.6 this evening and the doc said it's not technically a fever, but to keep an eye on her, even though she is acting perfectly normal and no other symptoms. I would definately side eye the nurse telling you to let a fever go higher than 100.4 in a LO so young. I don't blame you one bit for skeptical and considering a second opinion. I would too.

  • Nope he didn't test for RSV. Today she has no fever, although I 'm keeping it cool in the house. Hopefully she just kicks it before symptoms get bad. I would hate to see her get bronchitis like her sister.
  • I do think it's time to look for a new pedi.
