What did you dress your LO in this morning? I had DS in long johns underneath cargo pants, thick socks, sneakers an undershirt, sweatshirt, and a heavy coat and hat. I thought I went overboard until we actually stepped outside.
I think it was about 10 degrees yesterday. DS is 4. I dressed him in jeans, winter boots, t shirt, long sleeve shirt, sweater jacket, and winter coat. He also wore a winter hat And gloves.
I feel like if I put him in anything underneath his pants I would have to change him once we got to daycare or else you would be to warm.
I don't really dress them a whole lot differently, maybe an extra layer on top b/c it is so warm inside and obviously they're not taking them outside at school in this weather. my kids will actually get in the car & take off their coats, gloves, hats & make me generally crazy after all the struggle to get all that stuff on them.
I don't do anything different either except I make sure I pack all of their winter gear in case we get stuck somewhere or they are evaluated from the school for any reason and have to stand outside. It is warm inside and kids can't wear winter coats in the car seat. I warm the car up before we get into the car.
I didn't really do anything different, but that's because he is outside for a total of 20 seconds probably and will be inside all day. He's got fleece pants, a onesie, a fleece jacket, then I put his coat, hat and gloves on him. I keep a fleece blanket in the car in case of emergency.
I also don't reaply dress her much different than normal. Pants, sweater, socks, tennis shoes, hat, mittens, fleece and blanket. She's outside for a grand total of like 1 minute.

Well I don't suspect DD will make it out of her pajamas today at my parents. She has a cruddy cold, so she vehemently fought getting dressed this morning. Just not feeling good at all. Her pj's consisted of thick socks, long sleeve shirt, footed fleece Pj's and then we put on slippers, hat, coat and blanket over her on the way to, and in the car. Clothes I sent for her should she decide to get dressed today were pants, undershirt, long sleeve shirt, and sweater.
I layer thin layers underneath to keep them warm. I found out this year that if the baby's coat is too thick it makes a good fit in the carseat impossible and the kid can be ejected from the seat. So, my younger one wears a fleece coat and we carry him in a blanket to and from the car. Of course he's wearing layers and hats and boots though. For my toddler we found a thin warm coat from Patagonia. If you can put him in the car seat without loosening the straps for the coat, it is still safe.

I add a thin layer under DS's clothes too, and that's only because his daycare is not that warm. I walked in and a bunch of kids still had their coats on and some with a throw over them. I of course remove the heavy coat as soon as we get in the car.
Boots, leggings, undershirt and a heavy sweatshirt. And her winter coat of course. We are only going from the car right into daycare though. They don't go outside if it's under 40.

DD2 (almost 2) was in a turtleneck onesie, fleece sweatshirt, heavy fleece pants, and sneakers. Heavy coat, hat, mittens.
DD1 (5) was in her gymnastics unitard thing she insists on wearing, fleece pants, fleece sweater, heavy 2 layer coat (fleece under and heavy shell on top), and not sure about shoes (she wasn't done when I left). Either fuzzy boots or these warm snow shoes I got her on Lands End for like $10.
Our nanny parked in our garage, and they'll only be outside long enough to get from the car to the door of gymnastics or the library. It was 0 F when I left the house. It's 2F now. Wind chill it's -20F.
My boys were only outside this morning for the very short walk from my car to the daycare - and it's nice and warm inside daycare. So they both wore lined pants and heavy sweaters, along with their winter coats and hats. They won't keep gloves on, so I didn't even try since we'd only be outside for about a minute.
I didn't bother with gloves and a scarf for that same reason.
We don't dress DS much differently since he gets in a warm car in the garage and we have abut 5 steps from our car to the daycare door. He wears a coat, hat, mittens and his regular clothes. I pack his heavy winter coat since it's too big for the car seat in case they go outside, although it's too cold to go outside today.
We have an attached garage so we warm up the car and then the walk into daycare is about 10 steps so I don't bundle him up crazy but I do usually give him an extra layer since the building tends to run a bit colder. Today he wore a velour tracksuit with a long sleeved tee shirt under it (in the car he has a light jacket and a hat). I keep a heavy jacket, boots and mittens at daycare if they have to go outside, although they won't be doing that today.
One of the kids in his class this morning was wearing a t-shirt, really lightweight cotton pants and sneakers with no socks. It made me cold to look at him.
It's 16 here so we don't really qualify per the OP - but that is insanely cold to me. DS wore normal clothes and I warmed the car. I handed his coat to the DC teacher that pulled him out at the drop off line.
I did drive the girls to school as several (stupid) neighbors watered this morning so the sidewalks are straight up ice. And like others, as soon as we got in the car off came gloves, scarfs, earmuffs and coats and I wanted to throttle them - school is only several houses away and they could have kept 90% of that on.
And this is why we live in a ridiculously high COLA. I will never have to worry about this.. I'm terrified just from reading this post.
LOL, I would much rather take the cold and bundle up then live in a high COLA. I get frightened by the price tag of some houses when I watch house hunters.
My kids aren't going outside at all today, home w DH. But the baby has Reynaud's, so I've been keeping her in layers- regular (non footie) pjs, socks, footie pjs and a knit sweater. Our house is old and drafty and she gets cold so easily.
Our 3 year old runs so hot, she will probably be wearing leggings and a long sleeve shirt and no socks. I will bundle her up in layers for preschool tomorrow- long sleeve shirt, knit sweater, leggings, skirt, jacket, boots mittens, scarf, hat. She doesn't have to be outside too much, so no snow pants.
My son wears a uniform to preschool so that determines some of it. He wore kakhis (can't wear jeans, must be kakhi, navy, or black) with a turtleneck and a sweatshirt that zips about 1/4 of the way down, with a fleece lined coat, hat, and mittens.
He is potty trained, but I wouldn't add another layer under his pants for fear that he would have have trouble getting the extra layer down before going to the bathroom.
Hmmm........I don't really dress the kids any differently in zero degree vs 30 degree winter weather. They do wear long sleeve shirts and puffy coats, hats, boots, etc.

DH spent his entire life in Southern California until I dragged him to North Dakota. People adjust.
We don't dress DS any differently during the week. He is unfairly impervious to cold, we warm up the car ahead of time, and I don't want him to overheat in class. He has snowpants at school for recess. For the weekend, we do have flannel-lined jeans.
I am in Illinois, and all of the schools in my area are closed. So my mom watched them (she works from home and came over) and all I had to do was worry about myself for the morning commute. They should be in pajamas all day.
It was 4 degrees this morning :wtf: I brought her to my mom's in her 3-pc fleece jammies, coat, hat, mittens, with a blanket on top. We live in the city w no garage and have to decide between a freezing car, or warming it up but risking having it stolen. Today I chose the latter and thankfully it was still there when I got outside.
Putting my toddler in the car on a freezing ass cold, dark morning makes my top 5 most hated parts of being a WM.
Yesterday, school was called off, so I threw fleece pants and a shirt over his jammies to take him to my parents'. I sent regular clothes, but he never wanted to change. Today, sweats and a fleece over... jammies. Complained about the layers this time. LOL He actually wears a uniform but the principal said to dress warm and not worry about it today. Fortunately, some nice warm corduroy pants came in the mail today, so he can go in dress code tomorrow.
Re: States that are 12 Degrees and Lower...

Confused.
I live in a HCOL area (metro NY) and it's 9 degrees today. Do you think only LCOL areas are cold?
