Almost perfect anatomy scan... But still worried

Anyone else have an A/S that was mostly good but a few small things came up that threw you off? There were 3 things that showed on my a/s that both the MFM dr and my midwife are telling me are probably nothing but require further blood tests and an additional scan in a few weeks. This is totally throwing me for a loop . I'm letting my mind wander to the worst case scenario and I'm a nervous wreck. I went from writing lists of names to not even being able to focus on anything as I wait for the phone to ring with more results . Anyone else go through a similar issue? If so- have you gotten more clarity on any of the issues yet ?

Re: Almost perfect anatomy scan... But still worried

  • My PAPP-a protein was low - she said she's seen worse but it's below where they would like it to be. And then there was a "spot" on his heart which Can be a soft marker for DS. We went ahead and did the panorama blood test and I also did a test for CMV due to a calcium deposit. They said because all my previous blood work is very low risk and all his measurements are perfect it's probably nothing . But who wants to hear probably?! They also mentioned that normally there would be multiple markers if there were an issue , and then I googled ( first mistake ) and both the low Papp-a and the spot on his heart are triggers for downs, so to me that's multiple. Just playing the waiting game until I get some blood results back and have a growth ultrasound in 3 weeks. He's currently measuring 1.5 weeks ahead so they want to make sure that stays in tact.

  • I'm in the same boat, sort of! I had my scan last Friday, but the tech could not get my baby to move in order to take scans of his back. She kept tapping on my stomach, taking scans of other parts, and then trying to go back to it, but no luck. I have to go back in tomorrow to try again. Adding this to being a FTM at 20 weeks and not being able to feel the baby move yet, and I'm a ball of nerves. I realize that it's a 99% chance that everything it totally fine, but it's definitely stressful. Hopefully tomorrow everything will be fine, but right now I can totally empathize!

  • there are a few posts on this already. You are not alone at all. most times, these things are fine just as your doctors and midwife said.

  • @kateamart - I'm 20 weeks tomorrow and haven't felt baby move yet either. Everyone tells me it's still early and not to worry but I can't help it! My A/S is this Friday and I'm just a ball of nerves as well. G/L on your follow-up ultrasound tomorrow! FX everything looks good!
  • My Papp a was also JUST low enough to register it was low at 13 week, but all the other first trimester downs testing came back normal. So they're just going to monitor it more during the third trimester. I had my anatomy scan at 21 weeks yesterday and everything was measuring on point. But they have me scheduled for another ultrasound at 32 weeks to check her growth because that protein was low. But should be nothing to worry about.
  • Thank you everyone. I hope we all receive positive news at our follow ups. Its helpful to hear others getting the same readings and everything is turning out fine
  • I have already had 2 anatomy scans (one with my OB, one with an mfm specialist) because they needed to confirm a cleft lip (which they did :( ). At both, they said everything else looked good. I also had a normal NT scan and was low risk on the blood test I had done at 10 weeks. AND YET, they offered an amnio (which I turned down) and when I meet with the fetal team next week to discuss surgery to repair it, they are going to do another anatomy scan, a fetal MRI, and a fetal echocardiogram. They keep saying everything else is normal and it may not even involve his palate, so why and all the extra tests? I'm pretty sure they are just trying to get as much info as possible on the lip/palate and rule out associated problems (syndromes), but didn't all the other tests already do that? Makes me nervous about them finding something else.

Good luck with all your follow up.

This is my concern too. Its probably fine...but then right after my anatomy scan they sent me in for 2 blood tests, she spoke to the genetic counselor on our behalf and asked if we wanted to as well. She didnt think an amnio was necessary as of right now. I guess the additional testing is what is throwing me off, but its necessary.. Good luck to you as well-I am praying for the best outcome for you!
  • @mierca‌ I'm sorry to hear about your boys cleft lip, I'm hopeful that science has come such a long way that you nor he have any long term problems. Sending best wishes to you guys!
