Breastfeeding

First clogged duct!

We've been happily breastfeeding for almost 8 months now, got through the hardships of the first 8 weeks or so without any major issues. But DD started spacing her feedings out today from her usual 2 hours to every 3-4 hours. I'm guessing this is how the clogged duct happened, but I was just wondering how long it took for other mommas to get them to go away? I've massaged, nursed, nursed again, even tried pumping and currently have a warm compression and it still seems the same :-/ any advice would be much appreciated, thanks ladies!

Re: First clogged duct!

  • more suggestions--
lecithin supplements- you can take up to 4x per day
    advil to reduce inflammation
    drink lots of fluids
    soaking in a hot bath
use a vibrator or electric toothbrush on your breast to help break up the clog

try having your LO nurse right after (or in) a hot bath, after the heat may have loosened things up a bit.

watch for redness on your breast, fever/chills, as these are signs of mastitis.

  • Dangle nurse your LO on all fours. It's weird but works. I did hot shower, then would dangle feed while massaging.
