Engorged all the Time?

Hey everyone just curious as to what's happening. I am for the past week engorged all the time, like it literally feels like bricks in my boobs. DS doesn't seem like he's feeding more or less and he's had the exact same wet and dirty diapers.
I'm exclusively BF and pump only 2-4 oz each day for when I go out.
Any advice would be helpful, I just had to hand express some milk to relieve the pressure. .

Re: Engorged all the Time?

  • Have you been eating a lot of oatmeal lately? Or drinking dark beer? Maybe you have been unintentionally ingesting something that helps increase supply?

  • I have actually been eating red river cereal lately, so who knows..
  • I notice a huge difference if I eat cereal (one with oats) or drink even a few sips of beer.

My mom makes these cookies with oat flour in them for Christmas and HOLY MOLY the milk I had for a few weeks just from cookies.

  • I could pump more like probably 5oz or more from each breast at a time, but I don't usually need it so I just don't+ I hate pumping.  TMI but nipples have had on/off shooting pain. Is that what a plugged duct feels like?

  • For me, plugged ducts are like a soreness and usually are towards the outer edges of my breasts. I often get mine near my armpit or near my sternum. I don't tend to feel it near my nipples, though you might if you have a milk blister causing the plug? (anyone want to weigh in?)

  • Thanks so much for the replies :) you are all so knowledgeable. I will keep expressing, and hopefully the stabbing feeling will subside on its own. On the plus side I have tons of pumped milk for when I get my hair done tomorrow night, maybe I'll take the long way home lol

This sounds like a plugged duct in the nipple. Is nursing painful? If so, you can relieve the duct by sort of pinching the nipple and turning it like a radio knob back and forth. That's the best way I can describe it.

When I get plugged ducts elsewhere, it feels sore like a bruise. And it feels like marbles under my skin. The first time I had one I was convinced I had breast cancer because I found a "lump". Lol!
