What Have You Done? (eight days into Jan)

I had a short list of things I wanted to do "this year" or "better".

I can only open a 529 through my employer (I work for a financial institution).

I finally emailed to find out how to do that.  Most people can do it AT WORK but I work from home.

I feel a little accomplished.  And will follow through to completion.

What have you done so far?  It' more than a week into the new year, so we can start talking about traction on NYR.

  • I wanted to get in shape and loose weight, I haven't really started eating better but I did join a gym (I chickened out of joining a boot camp) and I have been every day this week. So far I am really enjoying it - the 3 days I went. I both have done cardio and attended a yoga class. I'm still waiting on getting set up with a personal trainer though.

  • I wanted to go to Legal and make my will, since I have been in the military for 5 years now and go figure! I don't have one. I also wanted to start my 401K plan and open a custodial account for LO. I'm a little behind on all of this, but I will have it done by February.

I have 2 crock pot meals scheduled per week all month starting with tonight's dinner!  The big plus is none of those nights are repeats so DH can't complain we are eating the same thing each week!!

One goal is to take better care of myself, and yesterday I finally booked a desperately needed eye doc appointment. Thanks for starting this thread so I can brag :)

Still on the list is book tours of DC so I can decide what we are doing with DD in the summer. I hate doing these things...

  • I promised I would track my food intake on myfitnesspal starting monday.  Woo-hoo!  I have tracked all 2.5 days so far.  (I have small achievements)

Thanks for the reminder on wills - I signed up for a legal benefit also and need to get the information to get started.

  • I'm on day 6 of Whole 30.  I'm feeling pretty good and I think I've lost some weight.  I'm not one who sticks to diet programs, so 6 days is an accomplishment.  Also?  No wine on Whole 30.  That's an accomplishment in itself.

  • No wine would be a deal breaker for me..... While WW says you should not use all your points for alcohol, I have weeks where all of my "extra" points go straight to wine.  I only loosely started counting points again on Monday and am down 3 pounds.  That should tell me something about what I was eating/drinking over the holidays, wow.

  • Weight wise, I'm doing a challenge where I cut something out every month (sweets, fried foods, dairy, juice/side, sugar) and so far so good!

I also want to improve our finances. Managing, retirement accounts, college fund for LO. So far I've made a Bill Binder and put $20 in an envelope for a retirement account haha. It's a start.

On a personal level, I need to find patience and look at the bigger picture. I'm a very impatient stubborn person and there were too many times in the last few years that I've felt bad for how I've reacted to some things.

  • @ErinO21‌ -I have a note above my computer monitor at work that says, "Freaking out never helped anyone achieve anything close to perfect harmony." Next to it is one that says, "Don't discount your inherent power to put this in perspective." Those have helped me on the "big picture/temporary annoyance" thing.

I've been working to keep us on track after work and standing firm on making DH do pickups. Not spending 30 minutes getting my naked children dressed at Grandma's (really, she doesn't make my 2 yo wear clothes) has freed me up to get dinner on the table much faster. Now Daddy gets to deal with his nutty parents. So far, it's going great!

I've been tracking my meals for almost a year without missing a day on MFP.  It's made the biggest difference.  Find me on there! username: mexicolombiana I love seeing what other people eat and I have so many "friends" on there now!
  • I have changed my signature SO MANY TIMES to fix the pictures and it just will NOT carry over into the message boards.  Anyone have any ideas?
  • One goal is to be significantly more organized at work. So far I have my calendar filled up with daily tasks and all of the deadlines, reports, Conf calls, etc. As each task is completed, I highlight it. I also have set reminders in my phone as a backup. I am making weekly to-do lists for everyone in the department as well so there are no surprises as to what my expectations of them are for that week. So far that has been well received and I am able to actually quantify what I have accomplished each day rather than wonder what I did all day! It's a good feeling!

  • - led two technical training sessions that I was dreading so, so hard over the holidays.
    - started a new online graphic design course
    - created some more product for my side business
  • Started Brene Brown e-course on imperfection/authenticity/wholeheartedness. Really enjoying it.
  • lurker taking the plunge into posting.
    - I started DD's savings acount
    - I've cooked everynight this week instead of throwing in the towel and just having DH pick something up (I'm still on maternity leave)
-working on becoming more aware of our budget and sticking to it.
  • Played tennis once and confirmed another match for two weeks from now. (Goal is to play at least 20x this year)

Started walking to work again instead of having H drive me to the train station.

    More physical activity = yay.

  • I wanted to get my Master's paper written before the beginning of the semester.  Technically the semester started today, but I don't start class/clinical until next week.  I'm hoping to have the first draft done by the end of the weekend.

I need to get back on the workout wagon.  I was going at 5am for 2 weeks straight, but then the plague hit everyone in my house, and I just went back yesterday morning.  I am not interested in going out in 13 degree weather tomorrow morning, so I'll have to wait until Friday morning.

I also need to get back to tracking on MFP.  I've been really slack about that.

I finally have a programmable crock pot. I think doing this Is a great idea.
  • Prepared all my materials for my class ahead of time for once! And finished off a draft that was submitted yesterday.

Also finally got my contacts refilled and will go get another pair of glasses today (because when DS2 nearly broke my 1 pair over the holidays I freaked out).

I'm also on WW and the wine points kill me!  I usually average 6-8 points a meal.....and that's one glass of wine.

I'm transitioning to paleo, my food habits were awful, and I've lost 7lbs. All water weight, but I'll take it. I also started doing cross-fit, very much at a beginner level. I'm so out of shape, but I really enjoy the class.
  • Work has been awful for the past year, and I made a concerted effort not to let it get to me anymore.  I started this just before Christmas.  I just feel so much better.

I've promised to appreciate life and my family more.  I have a huge 18 month project wrapping up over MLK weekend, and I've already scheduled 4 days off in the weeks after that.  I promised DD1 a special day out because I've been working a lot trying to get this wrapped up.

DH and I have been a lot nicer to each other - something we both needed to focus on.  Life was getting in the way and we were taking each other for granted.  That will be a long term effort, but so far, so good.
  • I didn't make any resolutions but I decided not to drink alcohol in the month of January because that seems to be the biggest problem w/toning up  my midsection.  We'll see how that goes.
  • I love my job, but I don't make enough money. I applied to another job in the same field.

I want to wear a bikini this summer and feel good about it. I have 8 lbs to lose to get to pre-pregnancy weight. I went to the gym Sunday, Tuesday, and yesterday. I'm going to work out at my work gym before picking up DD from DC.

I also wanted to be smarter about how I spend my money. I've brought lunch with me (and they have been somewhat healthy) every day this week so far.
