Anyone dealing with eczema (baby)

hey ladies,
DS has what i see as bad eczema. He has one really bad spot on his cheek which the doctor provided cortisone cream for. It hasn't gone away and the doctor doesn't seem to think my diet is affecting it (ebf). Does anyone have any experience either way?
We are using Khiel's baby cream on his body as well.

Re: Anyone dealing with eczema (baby)

  • My LO has dry skin/rash on sides of head. pedi said it looks like eczema or other type of rash and could be trial and error with creams. I've been using Aveeno and Honest Co brand of creams which work if I'm consistent, but it still makes it's way back if I miss applying the cream. I'm pretty frustrated with it...it does make feel kinda bad that I can't figure out what's causing it.

  • I just went through this. I use Cetaphil cream and aquaphor constantly moisturizing is what helped do it with every diaper change and then some. We use humidifiers now to add moisture to the air since the heat drys out her skin. 5 min bathes with dove soap and lotion her up when her skin is still moist from the bath. We were prescribed some creams as well desonide for the body, hydrocortisone for the face. The desonide I use for about two days during flare ups the hydrocortisone I do not use at all because it drastically lightened her face. Good luck it's all about persistence. It was really trial and error for us.
  • Yes, it seems that DS2 has seasonal eczema just like DS1.  For both it flared as soon as it got cold and we turned the heat on full time.  DS1 outgrew his by the time he was 2, so I'm hoping its the same for DS2.

Ditto pp, don't put hydrocorisone cream on their faces because it thins the skin and will discolor it.  We use it just on the bad spots and lotion with Aveeno Baby Eczema twice a day.  So far that lotion seems to work best for both of time.

  • My daughter had a bad case of eczema for awhile.  I did the trial and error with creams.  The pediatrician finally gave us Triamcinolone to use on the dry spots as needed up to three times a day.  That really helped and now I only use it as needed.  I also give her a bath every other day and mix Aquaphor and Cetaphil together to get a think cream which works wonders.  If you are breastfeeding I would have them check him for childhood and food allergies.  I had the pediatrician do this and found out my daughter is allergic to eggs, soy, and peanuts.  So I've had to eliminate all three from my diet.  Hope this helps and your little one gets some relief soon!
  • Thanks ladies! I'm seeing a naturopath tomorrow and I'm going to try cutting out dairy, however I'll need help since I live on cheese!!

  • The aveeno eczema lotion has worked really well for us, when winter came DD developed patches on her ankles and legs. We use the lotion everyday. Pedi did not think it was diet related (EBF) since she went over 4 months without it.

  • Mine has a patch on her cheek. It's been there for awhile but I haven't been aggressively treating it. Ive just started trying some Eucerine, I'll try Aquaphor next if that doesn't work.

  • I tried practically everything with my ds. The only thing that worked was cerave. It's the best. He no longer has eczema.
  • I have no personal experience with this but a friend of mine uses one and swears by a hazelwood necklace for her daughter who has eczema. It's like the amber necklaces that are used for teething but made out of hazelwood. She got hers from hazelaid.com if you are interested

  • Well, LO has two tiny patches on his elbows. They showed up sometime since Christmas.

Pedi advised 1-2 baths per week (because even just water baths dry out skin) and unscented lotion. We have some Keri samples we are working through. Seems to work alright, though LO's case is mild. I have bad seasonal eczema so I'm hoping he has H's skin.
