I returned to work this week and pumping has been going great however LO will only drink 1 oz from a bottle every 2-3 hours which obviously isn't enough. We've tried using all different kinds of nipples and offer him a bottle regularly but after about an ounce he just starts spitting the bottle out and refuses it. When I come home he nurses just fine and I know he gets 2-3 ounces from me because we've had weighed feedings so 1 ounce just doesn't seem like enough. Has anyone else gone through this when they returned to work? Any tricks to get LO to eat more from a bottle while I'm not there? He doesn't seem overly fussy from the lack of milk but I know he should be eating more. I only nurse when I'm home so at least he's getting more when I'm there. We go to the doctor this Friday so that should also let us know if this is causing him to lose any weight. Any tips, advice, explanations are appreciated
Re: Breastfeeding/returning to work
My LO is spacing bottle feeds every 3 hours at daycare but he is taking 4 oz. I can hardly get a 2.5 hour stretch out of him at home when he is nursing (he only eats from a bottle at dc). I'm assuming this is because he prefers the breast and also guessing he would be fussy there if he was starving. It took 4 different bottle/nipples to find one he would take without drowning or refusing. He's doing pretty well with the Playtex Drop In nurser with the slow natural latch nipple.
