Workout Wednesday

Anyone still exercising?

What exercise did you partake in this week?   Ive just been walking on treadmill at an incline for 20 min and elliptical for 20 min - 5-6x a week.  I try to incorporate some light weights for arms, followed by lunges.

Were you able to reach your goals? I dont have many goals at this point, just to get to the YMCA and do anything for 30 min at least.  Also, trying to keep weight gain to 1 lb/week from here on out.

GTKY:  What vitamin(s), if any, did you take prior to BFP and will you take them again and/or add anything new postpartum (besides the prenatals)?  I take BodyBalance and 1000 u of D3, will start taking B complex again once DS arrives

Re: Workout Wednesday

  • I was doing zumba until my grandma got sick and passed away. I fell into a funk and did not physical activity. I now get winded walking up stairs, and chasing my little boy.  My OB said cardio is difficult in the last weeks and he doesn't recommend me doing zumba, especially since I stopped in November, so he recommended a Prenatal yoga dvd and walking. I want to stay as active as possible under Dr's orders to make an easier L&D.

  • I'm still exercising!

What: crossfit class Monday and I'll hit today's as well. I did light (for me) front squats and the workout at a reduced pace. I'm still able and comfortable to do most things, I just have to take a lot more breaks and cut weights further.

Able to reach goals: At this point, the goal is to do something. I make sure to walk for 15/20 minutes or so at least once a day and I'm taking the gym stuff one day/session at a time (how do I feel during, immediately after, and the next day). The gym will get cut if I have problems.

Vitamins: Only prenatals before. I probably won't add anything unless I need to.

  • What exercise did you partake in this week?  I did a 60-minute treadmill walk on Sunday and Monday evenings.  Yesterday night I took a break.  Monday evening of this week bodypump was cancelled, which I was sad about because I'm not sure I'm going to be able to partake next week @ 35w - that might be a little much!

Were you able to reach your goals?   If I can get 45 minutes of exercise/movement at least every other day, I'd say I'm meeting my goals!

GTKY:  What vitamin(s), if any, did you take prior to BFP and will you take them again and/or add anything new postpartum (besides the prenatals)?  Nothing, just the prenatals which I started a few months before my BFP and I'll continue PP.
  • Thanks for posting this! I have been wondering how everyone is doing.

I am still making it to the gym 5-6 days per week. I do spin at least 2x times per week, try to do body pump 1-2x and do my own thing on the other days. "My own thing," consists of jogging on the treadmill (or walking on the "mountain peak," setting if I feel like I can't jog) or elliptical followed by weights. I am still lifting as heavy as I can but have had to drop my weight waaaay down to maintain proper form. Most lifts, I am only doing around 50% of what I was doing pre-pregnancy and frankly, it is starting to make me pretty sad.

My goal continues to be to just do what I can. I'd like to continue working out at least 5 days per week until the end but I'm really just taking it one week at a time, at this point. I'd also like to keep weight gain in check.

Pre-pregnancy I just took a multi-vitamin, fish oil and calcium (as needed). Now, I am taking prenatal, DHA, calcium and a probiotic. The probiotic has done a lot to help digestion (which never felt particularly bad to begin with) so I am planning to continue taking it after baby.

  • I still walk 60-90 minutes a day outdoors but my goal of continuing to swim 40min 5 days a week was crushed a month ago. I haven't been to the pool for a month! I'm going to try to get back to it for this last month a few times but it is hard to motivate myself to get wet in this deep freeze when I'm sooooo exhausted all the time!
  • I had to take a break for 34-36 weeks because my Dr. was afraid of me going into preterm labor while I was out of town. I am home now and ready to get back on the workout train! I was working out 5-6 days a week until 34 weeks. Those two weeks off is the longest I've gone without working out in as long as I can remember.

Plan is to do T25, prenatal pilates and yoga and weight lifting from now until baby arrives!
  • I'm only 34 weeks, but I feel like I've hit a workout wall. I walk for 40-60minutes 3-6x per week, normally 5, and then I do an interval workout at the track with a girlfriend 2x per week where we do a lap, do the stadium stairs, a set of lower body exercises, then a set of 20 pushups. We do this 5 times and it normally takes just over an hour. We did this yesterday and I had to take a bath afterwards to stop the cramping and aching afterwards. I had been doing a pretty good yoga practice at least 2x per week, though this is also getting harder, so I think I'm going to be keeping it to a home practice from here on out. At this point I'm just trying to stay active in any way shape or form. As a yoga teacher and massage therapist I'm on my feet using my body most days regardless until I back off of work in about 2 weeks.

I take my prenatals and I changed up my probiotic to Femdopholis which is supposed to help with GBS so I've been taking it in hopes that I'll be negative in 2 weeks. I also sometimes remember to take my Calcium, Magnesium, and D supplement.
  • Awesome job ladies..ive been wondering where this check in was.
Im currently on the treadmill walking..very slowly for the first time in a few weeks. I also did some light lifting. I barely did anything all of December & it was driving me crazy!!

My new goal is M, W, F get a workout in. I also want to look up some stretches to do for the remaining 6 weeks.

GTKY: didnt take anything excepr Folic Acid.
  • @CogDis‌ 60-90 a day?! Thats awesome. Ever since it got cold out I stopped my outside walks :(
  • What exercise did you partake in this week?   Monday I used my exercise ball and did a leg and arm routine with it.  Yesterday I biked four miles at the gym.  I would have gone longer, but a labor and delivery nurse actually came up to me and made a comment about how I need to be careful.  She made me nervous, so I stopped.  In hindsight, the gym was crowded and she probably just wanted to use my bike (:  I'm going to try and make it to yoga tonight.  I just try to do some combination of cardio, light weights and stretching everyday.

Were you able to reach your goals? No goals other than to get off the couch and move my butt!

GTKY:  What vitamin(s), if any, did you take prior to BFP and will you take them again and/or add anything new postpartum (besides the prenatals)?  I just take a daily multivitamin.  The Y I go to has a nutritionist, so post-baby, I'm going to see if she recommends anything.
  • @amack22‌
Thanks! I have help: a very demanding Australian shepherd dog. Honestly, if I didn't have her I know I would regularly skip exercising because pregnancy is *way* harder than I thought! I did have to take 2+ weeks off awhile back because of an injury from slipping and falling on the ice. I'm so grateful that I've healed and that my pregnancy is so low risk.
  • The past two weeks or so have been much harder to exercise than previously. My goal is pretty modest - 200 minutes per week, and so far I've at least been able to hit that goal. However, lately it's hard to get up there. I do about 20-30 minutes of walking a day (the dog, or my commute to work), and do strengthening twice a week. I've added in special stretches for my hips (had surgery on each of them in 2013) to prepare them for labor. On strengthening days I try to do either 30 minutes of swimming or 20 minutes on the stationary bike.

I don't take any supplements except my prenatal vitamin. I'm not a supplements type of person.

  • What exercise did you partake in this week?   I hit the gym on Tuesday, going again tomorrow. I did 30 min bodypump, 30 min CXworx, and then 15 min walk/light jog on elliptical. Thursday is a similar routine (60 min weights/core, then light cardio to loosen up). I tend to go to the gym on Tues and Thurs, and then take DS out to the playground (weather permitting) on other days.

Were you able to reach your goals? My goal is really to just get some exercise in and get my "me time" at the gym. I can drop DS off at the kid care and get up to 2 hours of time for myself. It helps relieve stress, and let me focus on something other than caring for a toddler. Plus the added bonus of keeping in shape, since I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to keep up my strength handling two kids.

GTKY:  What vitamin(s), if any, did you take prior to BFP and will you take them again and/or add anything new postpartum (besides the prenatals)?  I only take prenatal vitamins. I was taking them before BFP because I was still nursing DS.

  • Yay!! I was so happy to see this thread again and to be inspired by what you ladies are doing. Awesome job!
At 35.5 weeks, I'm noticing my umph has waned, but like others, I'm just trying to do something. Switching workouts to later evening since it's bloody hot here!
I'm trying to walk 30-45 minutes at least twice a week, plus 2-3 strength days, and yoga for lighter days or when I need something, but not too much energy.
I've been taking probiotics, prenatals, fermented cod liver oil ;) and will continue that into nursing. The probiotic's been a lifesaver for the constipation!! Woot woot!
  • Everyone is doing so well! Any activity is good!

I'm still running. I did my third and final 5K of this pregnancy on Jan. 1. It was fun but it was frustrating to feel like I was jogging when everyone else was running. I was reminded how awesome I feel after running, so I've been ensuring each of my daily walks (5-6x/week) includes at least a little running. I get mild, non-painful BH whether I run or walk, so at least running I get my workout done more quickly.

I'm meeting my goals to do something almost every day. I know I feel better after a workout so that's my main motivator.

Vitamins- I've taken an iron supplement for the last several years. That'll probably continue forever. Nothing else special.

Anyone still exercising? Yes, still excercising 4-6x per week

What exercise did you partake in this week? I've done the bike, walked on the treadmill, pilates and barre so far this week. Today will be elliptical and pilates, tomorrow elliptical/treadmill, and saturday barre class.

Were you able to reach your goals? For the most part, yes. My goal is to be active at least 6 days a week but some weeks haven't allowed for that given work or just other things going on. At minimum I've been able to get a workout in 4x a week so I'm happy with that as well.

GTKY: What vitamin(s), if any, did you take prior to BFP and will you take them again and/or add anything new postpartum (besides the prenatals)? I was taking a CLA and women's multi vitamin from GNC. I will talk to my OB after I give birth to see what is safe given that I plan to breastfeed...
  • I'm reading this and thinking only of how lazy I am. I am laying in bed thinking....
