Raw veggies

I'm a FTM and I always feel one step behind. For example, My 14mo still takes bottles which I didn't even know was bad until I saw the one post on here. We haven't given him eggs yet because every time we try, we test it on his skin and he breaks out still. he doesn't use a plate, spoon or fork yet because he throws everything. I've tried "dippers" but he shoves his hands in the bowl and then flings it off his tray. I feel like I'm failing

Re: Raw veggies

  • Im not sure why it only posted half of my post. Here is the other half:
I've been trying to figure out more healthy sides and snacks for him to eat. He has about 8 teeth, but they are all up front. I feel like raw veggies would still be hard for him to manage. When can kids start to eat raw veggies? Obviously I'm clueless. Thanks

  • I think it's fine to give him raw veggies. Toddlers don't get their molars right away so they kind of rabbit nibble on food to break it up. The bottles aren't the end of the world but if you feel up for it, straw or sippy cups are pretty easy to transition after only a couple days of misery. Don't beat yourself up. I think unless you've had a lot of younger siblings or other babies in your life, you're bound to be kind of guessing with the first child. I know I felt that way!
  • My LO only had 8 front teeth until recently but he was a big fan of cherry tomatoes (cut in half), corn, peas, cucumber (does better peeled). Cut veggiea into match sticks and they can take little bites.

  • We avoid raw carrots (6 teeth) but he has tried salad and raw broccoli. No progress with utensils, but will eat from a plate without tossing it.

  • we do raw tomatoes since they are soft, but I still steam or bake everything else veggie-wise. Dont beat yourself up, there really are no hard and fast rules and if your pediatrician hasn't brought the issue up or seemed worried than I wouldn't give it to much concern. Follow your gut ;)
