Unsettled with EDD Change?

Anyone had a large due date change that doesn't seem quite right? My OB's office just bumped me back ten days based on measurements. My cycle is like a freaking clock so I feel like I'm kind of missing something.

To make matters more confusing, this exact thing happened with DS. We went in thinking we were 8 weeks, measured 10 days behind and they wanted a repeat US in two weeks. Two weeks later we came back and DS was measuring exactly what he was originally supposed to. Basically just a slow start. They bumped us back to the original due date that time. But this time, no follow up US has been scheduled so I guess I'm stuck. 10 day delay twice in a row at the exact same stage seems weird.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just being sensitive because I'm in such a rush to get the heck out of the first tri. 10 days backwards seems like an eternity.

Anyone else?

Re: Unsettled with EDD Change?

  • That would bother me too, hell—I'm in denial that the nurse calculated my EDD one day later than what my period app told me.

I would bring it up at your next appointment. That could cause headaches down the road if you're really 10 days further along than your EDD, your baby is going to be consistently measuring large. Depending on your PCP, that could mean pressure for an early induction. Which, if that's your cup of tea that's fine, but if it's something you'd like to avoid then I would try to get it cleared up sooner rather than later.

  • Yeah that seems a little off. I feel the same way. I've had repeat ultrasounds, and every time I go in my EDD gets pushed back 2-3 days. I'm now a week behind, which is 1. Concerning, and 2. Feels like an eternity in the first tri. Bleh.
  • I got bumped a week ahead. Totally not expected and kinda stumped to how it's possible. I'm now exactly 9 weeks behind my sister.

  • Yes yes yes!!! I've been waiting for someone with this concern (not that I wish it on anyone) ! I went for my first ultrasound thinking I was 7wks2days. I measured at 6. My next one I measured 7weeks4days. The amount of days in between should appropriate growth and we had a heartbeat at both. I just don't get it. I've tracked my ovulation for over a year. I had to have ovulated at the end of 48 hours and implanted very late. No one is concerned but me. Going back those days was disheartening because of previous late first trimester miscarriages. I wish we had definite answers and someone else acted more concerned. If nothing else , pregnancy is teaching me patience . Thanks for listening! FX to all!
  • I guess I'm thinking exactly what you ladies are.
    A. It's a REALLY BIG stretch in the math. I was keeping up with my LMP and my O dates. And they were right on. So I'd had to have a weird ovulation, plus things would have have had to "hang around" for a few days, plus the US might be a few days off. (tech said a five day margin is fair). I just keep thinking about my last pregnancy too and how it was the exact same thing. Except with this one, I won't have the option to be checked again and moved back.

And B. I had a induction with DS at 39 weeks. I had an US to check for size at 38 week because I'm really petite and his head was literally off the charts (measuring 44 weeks+) at that time. And yes, he had a huge noggin so it was the perfect thing to do to avoid a Csection. I guess I'm thinking ahead to that. Obviously every pregnancy is different, but if all falls like I think it will, then at 38 weeks, I'd actually be overdue! I'm just wondering about a complication down the road if things are off. That this one could be way "early" or really big or whatever.

I didn't know if I was nuts and should just get over it. I hate being pushed back. But being insistent when they're telling me everything looks perfect feels a little nuts.

While I had been trying for a while, I hadn't ever temped to find out exactly when I was ovulating, so I could have just ovulated late in my cycle. However, I got a positive result on a digital test (which I hear are less sensitive than others) on the day my missed period should have started, which by my current EDD was just 7 days past ovulation. So I'm just confused.

Yes! Exactly this! I'm thinking, how did I get a BFP on a cheapo home pregnancy test so quickly if I'm only this far along. It'd had to have been a few days after ovulation!

  • When did you get your BFP?

    LMP was 11/4
    Ovulation should be 11/19-11/24
    Got my BFP 12/8
    Original EDD 8/11
Which all seemed to match up really well with my 30 day, clockwork cycle.

But bumping me ten days would mean I ovulated waaay late. And how did I get a BFP basically 5-6 days after ovulation? Am I math failing? I really haven't had any complications in conception before so I'm not in the know on everything.

I think it would be possible. Let's say you were 10 DPO on 12/8. That's early to test, but my 6 months on TTGP showed me that people do it, and some can get bfps that early. If you were 10 DPO on 12/8 that would put your ovulation date at 11/28, which means they'd date the pregnancy from 11/14 instead of 11/4- ten days later. 10 days is a long delay in ovulation when you're regular, but it's not impossible.

However, since this has happened to you before, couldn't you ask your OB for another U/S and explain why? Your insurance may or may not cover it, but if it's really bugging you, I'd ask.

I'm assuming you weren't temping since you don't know your exact O date? It looks to me that it's VERY possible you O'd later than you think. I honestly wouldn't worry about it. If you measure 10 days ahead at your next appt, whenever it is, chances are they will move it back.

I know exactly when I O'd due to temping. And got my BFP at 10dpo however, my O date was a little late, by a few days, so I'm expecting to measure small and be pushed back a few days. I know it feels like a huge step back but try not to dwell in it, you may end up skipping right back up. :)

  • I'm not sure why but it seems like no other doctors discuss implantation with their patients.  I ovulated on day 12 (I know for sure, because I was under the care of an RE, with US and blood work on both day 11 and day 14.  Given I ovulated a bit early, I was surprised I was measuring a week behind in my first appointment.  My nurse explained that implantation can occur anywhere from 7 to 12 days after ovulation.  This can also lead to misjudged timing.

I've also heard ultrasounds can be a day or so off in any direction.  Not to mention that fact that some may just get off to a bit of a slower start.  (I've since caught up up in my measurements)

10 days is totally frustrating though!!
  • With ovulating late and achieving pregnancy in the same cycle, you'll never know if that particular cycle would have been clockwork like your others. Because AF never came to complete the cycle. Know what I mean? Had you not achieved pregnancy, who knows...maybe the cycle would have been 10 days or so longer?

I had a clear positive on an Internet cheapie at 9dpo. Granted ovulation was estimated by opk's because I had decided to take a break from temping...
  • I just had my ultrasound yesterday and got pushed back 3 weeks! I thought my EDD should have been 8/8 and now it's 8/30. I was so excited to be out of 1st tri in 3 more weeks and now I have 6 to go... :( so I feel your pain. I don't question the change though b/c we weren't trying so I don't know when I O'd and I had 2 periods in Oct - which I suspect the 2nd was a CP - so I know my dates were all screwy.

But it does suck going from the beginning of the month to the end of the month.

  • This is making me feel a bit better about it. I mostly just want to keep it in the back of my mind. My OB is fantastic. I wish I'd really thought about/discussed this with her at the appt yesterday. I know she readily would have scheduled another check. But I was kinda shocked about it and taking in a lot of other info. They kept saying everything looked great so I shouldn't worry. I'll see a NP at the next appt so it'll be 8 weeks until I see the OB again.

I may mention it down the road and see how things are going. I may truly just be behind, but I'm thinking not. She was great to give a growth scan at 38 weeks last time so I'm sure it won't be a problem again. I'm just going to expect things to happen a little ahead and see what happens.

  • With my first, my due date was moved up 2 weeks at my 20 week u/s. I knew it wasn't right bc I was charting, but my concerns were basically looked over. Not a major deal...until I was dx with GD and told they would induce at 41 weeks. I was induced before my original (likely correct) due date. My labor consisted of 20 min. of pitocin and was 4 hours. Pretty sure I should have insisted they used my original due date.

If you feel something is off with the dates, you could always ask for a follow up. Whats the worst that can happen? They don't give you another u/s....
  • chrissdee  - yeah it kinda sucked, but 10 days is a big jump too.
  • I think I'm just going to "keep" my original date and acknowledge theirs for now. We'll see what happens. I'm sure I'll all hash out down the road.

  • Yup, I know exactly when I got pregnant, but I went from 8 weeks 3 days yesterday to 7 weeks 1 day based on baby's size. This will be my 4th child so im used to it. It is annoying because you are pregnant longer but better for the baby in the end to off their size.
  • they moved me back eight days (from July 31 to August 8) after my first ultrasound, saying I either ovulated later than I thought or the baby was just measuring small. I didn't exactly love going from week 8 all the way back to week 7 (I didn't not want to live with another week of morning sickness), but wanted to wait and see how my next ultrasound in two weeks goes before I worry too much. hope everything goes well for you

I had this happen with my daughter in 2006 they bumped me backwards by 2 weeks and put me at 6/21. They did this due to measurements of baby. On 6/5 I had an ultrasound and they told me I was going to have a 10 lb baby. My daughter was born on her own on 06/06/06 with no induction etc. She was born weighing 5 lbs 13 oz and was 22 1/2" long. After her APGAR testing and such they determined she was at term.

I just went for an ultrasound with this peanut a few weeks ago at 8w 6d and they moved me forward to 9w 3d. I say baby will come when it is ready lol. I agree I would like to be out of the 1st trimester already.

So when they change your DD, do you change it on TB? I don't have the heart to.... I have issues, I know.

    Edit: words
  • @ABvintage‌ I think If I got pushed ahead I'd be excited to change the DD. I'd probably stay in the August group though, because it's awesome. :)

@chrissdee‌ that's my problem. I don't want to be a smaller fruit lol.
