Trying to Get Pregnant

does chlomid work the first time?

Hello everyone, long story short . . I've never had a period unless birth control was involved.. I was raped for several years when I was younger and I guess my body never wanted to fully grow. I was always terrified of getting pregnant by my abuser and now having a baby is all I want.. But.. I've tried over and over.. Nothing. Now I'm done with my first round of chlomid and have tried to conceive.. I am waiting till day 28 of my cycle to test.. But am anxious to know.. Do you ladies think it'll work the first time? Thanks in advance. (:|

Re: does chlomid work the first time?

  • I am sorry for your past trauma and struggles. I have taken clomid once and on my 4th round of femara (similar drug) and no pregnancy yet. It can work your first time or could not work at all, depends on the individual case.

Like other posters have said, are you seeing and OBGYN or a RE? Have you gotten all the necessary blood work and tests done as well as being properly monitored while on the drug?

  • I'm sorry for your struggles & traumas. I have no experience with Clomid, but I didn't want to pass your post without giving you internet hugs. Best wishes.

Also, please listen to any and all advice you get here regarding Clomid.

He hasn't monitored me at all I'm planning on going back because I was only given prescription for one round but I'm really hoping it did the trick!

Its always possible. Didn't your RE discuss the success rates with these serious fertility drugs?

He definitely didn't. He pretty much just gave me the medicine had some blood work done(which I never even knew what it was for) and set me off
  • First off, I am so very sorry for your situation and the past trauma you have suffered. Clomid is a powerful and potentially dangerous drug if not monitored correctly. Are you seeing an RE or did your ob/gyn give you the prescription? If it was an OB, are they monitoring you (starting with have you had CD 3 blood test, and HSG, follow-up monitoring U/S)? If not, stop seeing the OB and run to an RE. Unmonitored use can result in cysts, thinned lining, and a host of other terrible issues. I wish you luck on this journey and again, if you are not already seeing one, get to an RE.

I have no idea if he did all that. They just sent me to one lab place and after that I was done. I had an ultrasound to make sure I had eggs and no cysts but that was about it.
  • So sorry for everything you've been through! I was put on Clomid for 3 rounds and it was unsuccessful. However, I have a friend who rarely had a perfiod and got pregnant after her first round of Clomid. My DH also has low sleek count which hadn't been checked prior to starting Clomid. Just make sure your OB has you monitored.
  • I'm sorry about all you went through. All the advice on here is great, it's amazing how easily some doctors hand out clomid when it can be so dangerous. Good luck and I'm glad you found out sooner rather than later!

The OP was the one that bumped the thread.
