Do babies dream?

Whenever Will smiles in his sleep, or wakes up suddenly crying, DH will say "He must be having a good dream/He had a bad dream."  Googling gives me different theories - Babies as young as ours don't dream yet, but they are processing new information during REM sleep, They do dream but their dreams are silent or non-verbal.

What do you think/know/have heard on this?  Should I make a little baby dreamcatcher to hang on Will's bassinet?  Dreams are so interesting!

Re: Do babies dream?

  • I googled this when LO was younger.  The internet (I forget what site) says yes.  This made my husband very upset as she would wake upset and startled a lot.  The site I saw mentioned that they can dream about bad experiences like being lonely or hungry.  And the good ones too.

  • We always joke that he is probably dreaming about boobs or his bink when he smiles in his sleep, since those are his two favorite things.
  • @jac409‌ we totally make the same joke...that he dreams of chandeliers with boobs on it...lol
  • I don't know what Will was dreaming of yesterday morning, but it must have been awful. He woke up making a sound I had never heard out of him.  It was a very loud, panicked WAH WAH WAH like an air raid siren.  I felt so bad for him!
