Nursing Tops

I know we've discussed bras recently, but what about tops? I have a couple nursing tank tops that I can wear with cardigans, but now that we have bfing down better and I'm more comfortable with the idea of nursing on the go, I'd like more options! What brands/stores/styles do you guys like?

  • I've been rocking all the cardigans with nursing tanks underneath.
  • I've gotten some great tanks for staying at home and wearing as well as some actual I need to wear something out tops.

Check out the store "Moms the Word". They have an entire nursing clothing section on their site that might give you some options and good ideas if you also want to look elsewhere. It's a maternity store but most of their clothes are not meant for pregnant people only (they find regular clothes that also work for nursing and pregnancy).

    Good luck!

  • I also have never worn. A nursing top or tank. I just wear a regular tank top under every shirt anyway, and it pulls down easily.

  • @PineApple85 - lol, I didn't think about a nursing tank to cover my belly! I hate it when I'm nursing and my poochy, stretch mark covered belly is hanging out. CN you buy nursing tanks at Target?

@joshua+rebecca11‌ I've only ever worn the Target nursing tanks. In fact only last week the Gilligan & O'Malley brand were bogo half off and I got a coupon at the register for 20% off that brand with the purchase of some Medela parts. I'm hoping I can get back in there while they're still on sale.

@PineApple85‌ Have you noticed if that brand fits differently in the different colors? My white one (I only got white because that's the only color they had in store, don't buy white!) is way looser than my black one. Target's in store selection was seriously disappointing. Also, mine had the nursing tanks in the lingerie and not maternity.
I have two in the SAME color that fit differently. I still love them though. And my Target also has them in the lingerie section.

I didn't pay attention to the brand of the two I had with DS1 (1 white and 1 black) but I got them at Target and they didn't appear to fit differently. I only have one so far with DS2.

As far as fit, I bought a size smaller than what the size chart recommended because I didn't have great support last time and it appears to be working out well this time. That said, I don't like how I look in the tanks (it's basically like wearing a sports bra - not very flattering) so unless I'm staying home or just running to the store real quick, I have a nice nursing bra that I wear under it that gives better support and just looks better.

  • Thanks for the ideas!! Since LO wasn't nursing well for a long time, I just wore nursing tanks at home and pumped/bottle fed when we were out. Tried out the regular shirt over nursing tank and NIP for the first time today, worked great!
  • I have 3 cheap cami tanks from Rue 21 that are great because I can just pull them down and put it under my boob and it stays perfectly.

I have 3 tops I consider "nursing tops" that I wear if we are out and I might need to nurse in public.  2 are just v-neck wrap tops that came from the LOFT Outlet last year before I was even pregnant (mad clearance sale!) and I have 1 nursing top from Old Navy that I can wear later too, it basically just has an extra piece under the v-neck that makes it easy access for nursing.
