Healthy Living Check In - 1/5/2014

Afternoon ladies!  Sorry this is posted later than usual.  The morning got away from me.
I hope everyone had a nice and healthy weekend!

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We are a group of women striving to live healthier lives, whether that means losing weight, gaining weight, sticking to a specific diet, counting calories, avoiding counting calories, starting to exercise, continuing to exercise or anything in between.
We check in on Mondays and follow up with an accountability on Fridays (our favorite post of the week, because we love encouraging each other and celebrating all our successes!).

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Many of us are using MyFitnessPal to keep track of our eating and our exercise. MFP is a great tool to keep yourself accountable, and because it is set up as a social network site, we can cheer you on there as well as here. If you are using MFP and have not found us yet, let us know so we can friend you!

Re: Healthy Living Check In - 1/5/2014

  • The Good:  I did a bunch of dancing with my new Just Dance game.  Also, we experienced a lot of sticker shock yesterday when we bought all the gear we will need for our bike trip.  Guess it's really going to happen!  Yay incredibly healthy (and not vacation like at all) vacation!

The Bad: With the holiday having ended, there were still a lot friends and family in town.  This mean a lot of going out to eat or not so so healthy foods when hanging out.  Also, a lot of late nights, so unfortunately our weight set has been sitting in the middle of the floor unused for the weekend.  Same with the bike trainer.  :(

The Proud:  Still managed to get 10,000 steps in every day last week!

Your Plan: Get on the bike trainer!  I am confident that my legs will be fine for our trip.  What I am worried about is seat time.  As in...my butt.  So I need to get as much time as possible on the seat.  Beyond that, weights every night.  Tonight is arm day.

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles!  How would you like to travel and why? Trains!  Planes make me nervous and I hate car travel.  Trains are almost a romantic form of travel, if that makes sense.

  • Thanks for the check-in!

The Good: I have run two 5 miles runs already this year. DH and I bought floor planks on Friday. That was an added workout of lifting them into the house on Friday and then moving the stack yesterday because we made progress in laying them.

The Bad: DH got a lot of treats as tips for the holidays and I find myself eating a few everyday.

The Proud: I ran another 5 miles yesterday. My pace is great (for me) and I feel good during the most of the run.

Your Plan: Going to the gym three days this week for classes, possibly interval training with DH by running around the park and using the body weight machines tomorrow, running on the weekend, and trying to stay motivated with maybe biking or yoga in the afternoons T-R. I need to find something to be busy in the afternoons to avoid snacking.

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles!  How would you like to travel and why?

I like to travel by plane just to get there fast. I get scared though and seriously clutch the arm rest during take off and landing.

  • The Good: We have been eating healthier, and i have been doing a good job with the water.

The Bad: I don't want to exercise because I feel crappy and have the last 5 days. It's a bad start to a new year that was supposed to be a year of focus on me!

The Proud: Haven't gained any weight!! And I totally ate cookies. :D

Your Plan: Start yoga again. Drink water. and H and I are working on a meal plan that will keep us eating healthier and also spending less money.

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles!  How would you like to travel and why?
Ok I just love to travel! I find the concept of jumping in a car and ending up somewhere new so amazing (but I grew up on an Island). I also LOVE trains. So romantic and so fun to just sit and watch. But planes get me to the places I really want to go, and there is something so amazing about being that high up and seeing the tiny little patchwork world below.

@menrades - Thank you for the check in! I think your animal siggy is hilarious. Awesome job on the 10,000 steps.

@flyoffeve - Your runs are impressive!  I get what you mean about air travel, I love it but still get scared from time to time.  My grandfather died in a mid air collision before I was born.

As for me, I'm finally back on the healthy living wagon :D

The Good: I downloaded my fitness pal on my phone and started tracking calories as of yesterday.  My current goal is to lose a pound a week.

The Bad:  Before yesterday, I went a little crazy with drinking over the New Year celebrations.  No more alcohol for me except on special occasions.  It just makes everything easier for me to quit cold turkey.

The Proud: I have a plan that I'm ready to stick too.  Calorie counting on my fitness pal and being active 5 days a week.

The Plan: See above! My plan for being active is ballet Tuesday nights and Jazz wednesday nights.  I'm thinking to get my cardio in, I might download a coach to 5k app for the other 3 nights...we will see.  Good luck this week to all you ladies.

QOTW:  I prefer plane travel because it is quick and you can travel a long ways.  My DH and I fly from GA to Maine at least once a year to see the inlaws.  I would not enjoy that drive even though he has done it once.  Also, being in the clouds is so pretty to me.

    edit: forgot QOTW

TTCAL January Siggy Challenge: Animal Interactions in the Snow
  • Hey ladies! I'm back and hope to be more positive than the last month :D sorry about my negative attitude recently.

    The Good:
I'm feeling so much better now that I am not sick anymore. MH is on board with me to get more healthy so I think that will help!

    The Bad:
The whole last month has been horrible and I'm sure I've gained weight. Between the 31 day sickness and 2 weeks vacation up north, plus the holidays... I just did horrible

    The Proud:
Bought some healthy food yesterday and today I started body pump! I felt good after so also did 35 minutes on the elliptical. This is my last day off so I'm VERY proud of myself right now.

    Your Plan:
I am going to do something I've never done before. I'm actually going to follow the body pump schedule. I usually just do the videos when I feel like it so I am hoping this will give me the routine I need to kick ass!

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles! How would you like to travel and why?
I love traveling by car if time permits. I love not having a schedule to be on. If we are on vacation we aren't tied down to be in a particular place to fly back home. I'm a roamer when I am on vacation and don't usually know where I will end up.
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • The Good: Workouts were good this weekend and food choices were good (except the alcohol) as well. Overall, decent weekend working towards goals.

The Bad: I just ate a spoon full of cookie dough. Like 30 seconds ago as I was logging in... whoops! X_X

The Proud: I had my best leg day EVER on Saturday. I felt SO strong. While stretching out my legs on the treadmill after the weights, I felt amazing during my 1.5 mile jog. The great run was probably because my legs were so numb from weight lifting that I could no longer feel how exhausted they were. But it was nice to know that my lungs and heart are so strong and hold out well when I do run fast (usually my legs wear out first so I don't usually get to push my heart and lungs very hard).

Your Plan: Going to the grocery store on my day off, Wednesday, and getting some fresh fruits and veggies so we can have our daily salads again. I will workout today (had to work this morning so I'm about to get that in now), Wednesday, and Friday. Drink more water.

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles! How would you like to travel and why? Planes. I like to get there fast. I've never taken a train though and tried to get DH to take a vacation where we would ride one but it was not into it at all. I don't like car rides... I get car sick unless I'm driving and sitting for >1 hr makes my tailbone hurt. I bet a train would make me sick too.

  • Hi ladies! Can I join in here??? I really need something like this. Plus....@Nikolie93 Im clearly stalking you! lol Im everywhere you are!

A little history on me. Im a fat girl who used to be thin. REALY thin. I suffered from an eating disorder in my teens and 20s and amazingly recovered  and was able to get to a healthy weight but still had an issue with  "dismorphia" my dr called it. This is a problem that caused MAJOR problems in my relationship with my H in its early days however with time and counseling and my husbands help I let got hold  of a lot of issues and I always say Im mentally happier and more stable as a fat girl. While my H loves me no matter what I weigh and he seems to be oblivious to my weight changes I would like to be lighter if I can maintain my mental health. THAT possibility will be seen if I can manage to get to goal. I become obsessive when Im thin.....really obsessive. The dismorphia kicks in to high gear the thinner I get. I realize I will need to rely on H and friends and maybe even you ladies to let me know when Ive done enough (if i can even lose! lol)

    The Good:
I feel motivated right now. Sometimes thats hard for me to do. I felt motivated before the holidays but knew it to be unrealistic with all the parties and family get togethers. I still did good though. Portion control was easy for me this year because of that motivation.

    The Bad
    As motivated as I am
I have a real problem being wasteful....and we have a lot of food in the house that isn't in line with the plan I have mapped out. H is the same way!

    The Proud
Sort of in the same camp as The Good. I have been great at Portion Control. While it doesn't help me lose weight since Im kind of resistant unless I cut carbs, it has helped my appetite get under control

    My Plan
Low carb and transition into a more Paleo based lifestyle. I have had success in the past with diet and no exercise so thats good. I do plan on doing the Bikini Body Mommy (BBM) exercise series. I like that its 30 minutes a day but is definitly a workout. Its 90 days and gets progressively harder. After the 90 days of BBM I will likely do the Insanity program.
Did it before and was absolutely addicted! I got sick in the middle of it and couldn't jump back in.....however i just got over being sick a couple months ago so I should be good for about a year and a half (knock on wood.....i never get sick! lol) I would like to be at a healthy weight if/when we are taken off the bench for TTC

    QOTW:
I love traveling by plane! IDK why....i love the window seat and the excitement of the take off and the landing. Love the idea that Im going somewhere far from home and on an adventure. :)

  • The Good:  I've made some further changes to my diet so I hope that it makes a difference.

The Bad:  Haven't lost any weight lately...so frustrating!

    The Proud:  Meh

Your Plan:  Continue my workouts and try to eat a little better.

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles!  How would you like to travel and why?  Depends.  If it's a long trip I'd rather fly, but for a closer distance driving is good.

  • @flyoffeve Great job on the runs!  You are getting a great start in 2015 with your exercise!

@sweetcalittc1 How'd your workout go today?  Just Dance is great because it doesn't feel like exercise, but it definitely is!

@Elliecat17 **hugs** lady.  Great job keeping up with the water.  Take time for yourself and get back to working out when you feel up to it

@catvaughn5002 Just remember not to try to lose too much, too fast!  A pound a week is good initially, dependent on your weight now, but it's not sustainable.  It sounds like you have a lot of exercise planned!

@Nikolie93 Hey lady!  I'm glad you are finally not sick anymore!  That's awesome about your husband being on board.  These things alone are so difficult.  Getting into a workout routine is a good idea too.  Good luck!

@imnotfancy woohoo on feeling strong!!  Don't you love it when you have a fantastic workout?

@KirstenAlecia Welcome to the check-in!  Glad you found us.  :)  Do you have any friends you can give the food that doesn't fit into your plan to?  Or a food bank?  That's what we did when we changed up our diet and got rid of processed foods a few years ago.  It really helped with temptation.

@rmpar29 Keep it up, I'm sure you'll get a nice satisfying amount of pounds dropped soon.  That always happens to me.  Maintain maintain maintain...whooosh...a bunch of weight gone at once.
What changes to your diet have you made?

@furrypaws Hey lady!!  Good idea prepacking snacks for work!

I need to get back to MFP.  I used Loseit for years and tracked every day for a year straight.  I should probably get back to tracking myself!

  • @readinglove‌ I FINALLY started body pump today :D I decided I'm going to follow their schedule to see if the routine helps me.
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • Hey ladies!

The Good - I'm starting back in on tracking today and meal planning.

The Bad - I didn't go to the gym today. I couldn't find my shoes this morning, and I was running late. That's pretty much the worst excuse I've come up with in awhile. (Although admittedly, I was having rough day and probably wouldn't have gone anyway)

The Proud: I stayed within my calories while having one of those "eat everything in sight" days today.

The Plan: Taking breakfast/lunch/snacks to work so I can plan ahead, tracking, still limiting calories and evenly distributing carbs through the day, gym 3 times this week.

QOTW: Planes for sure. I like getting there quickly and having someone serve me drinks as I nap on and off. By the time I wake up, I'm there!

@readinglove It sounds like you have a lot of places that will help with accountability!  Feeling stronger is definitely good.
 Just imagine how much stronger you will feel later!!

@whitneyandconcep Put out your shoes before you go to bed tonight!
:P Well, maybe not tonight since it's after midnight here.  Sounds like you have a great plan!

So....I set up my bike trainer tonight.  And..whomp whomp whomp, my bike didn't fit because my wheels are too small.  You know what was cheaper than finding a trainer that actually fit my little wheels?  Buy a new bike.  We were at Target tonight at 10 pm buying a bike so I could start with seat time on the trainer for our trip!  It was the most comfortable one I found that wasn't a cruiser.  I love the look of cruisers, but they are so impractical. Funnily enough, it was the same model of the bike I had been using, just 7 years newer!  With larger tires of course. Good to know, since my bike has held up well over all this time.

  • @Menrandes - I'm trying to cut out some more salt from my diet.  I love real butter and had read that it was healthier than some of the processed stuff, but I switched to a fake butter with less salt.  (I don't like the unsalted real butter.)  I'm also trying to stick more to meat and veggies.  Anytime I've really lost weight is when I cut out most carbs.  My body just seems really sensitive to them.  I'm also trying to up my water intake.  Basically, throwing a bunch of darts at the wall and hoping something sticks!

  • The Good: Still tracking on MFP and back to better eating post holiday

The Bad: my back is acting up after a fall NYE so workouts are SLOW

The Proud: I fit back in to some pants that haven't graced my hips in a few years

Your Plan: Keep adding to the workouts as my back allows so I can get back to where I was

QOTW: Planes, Trains, or Automobiles!  How would you like to travel and why? All things being equal I like automobiles as long as I am driving (I get car sick) for the privacy and control factors.
