Is Your Period Different?

So I got my first PP period on Sunday. I feel like I am having an experience I don't recognize. Postive...I have had no cramps which is amazing. I usually have about 24 hrs of really painful ones. Negative. ..flow seems MUCH heavier than I'm used to. Anyone else feel like pregnancy reset their system. ..or does it just take awhile to get back to normal?

Re: Is Your Period Different?

  • My periods after DD were much lighter overall. The first 2 or 3 were heavier but then they were lighter and shorter ( 3 days instead of 5).  I have Mirena now so now more periods for me :)

  • I only had one period before I got Mirena. It was much heavier but less cramping (although more back pain). Since Mirena it's been irregular.

  • PP periods have been much better for me so far! More cramping but they don't last as long! They used to be about 8-12 days and were all over the place! Now they are only 4-5 days and like clockwork(:
  • Still haven't gotten mine, but we're still breastfeeding - not sure what to expect when we're done though!

I haven't gotten one yet this time.  After each pregnancy they have been different.  Pre first pregnancy I never had a predictable cycle unless on BC, but always had days of cramping.  PP1 I got my period while EBF at 4 months.  (She'd started sleeping 8 hours at 3 months so I thought that was why.  Only month she STTN until last November!)  It took about 6 months to settle out timing-wise.  I settled into a 6 week cycle with no cramps.  Post miscarriage I immediately got 28 day cycle little cramping.  PP2 I got my period at 4 months while still EBF ever 2 hours.  It took about 6 months to settle in.  I settled into a 30 day cycle with some cramping.  PP3 I'm almost at 5 months PP and no period yet, even though DD sleeps well and she's EBF.

    This.

I'm hoping for lighter, much lighter.
  • I've gotten super heavy periods this time. And I've had to go up a tampon size — weird because I didn't have a vaginal delivery this time. But it was so heavy last month I actually wondered if I was having a miscarriage. Only I didn't have the labor cramps like a mc. But it was that bad!

  • I haven't gotten mine back yet, but after LO #2 it was shorter, lighter and zero cramps. I would say it was just about as good as a period can be. Hoping for the same this time!

  • I haven't gotten mine this time. After DS, though, my cramps were way worse the first two periods. Then the one I had after my miscarriage wasn't so bad, and then I was pregnant again.

  • My first one was heavier and longer, i called my midwife and she said it is totally normal and it would take a while to normalize. Way better now!

It was a longer and heavier then what it used to be. It finally ended and then I started spotting again. Ugh.
(Oh & I'm pumping and not taking any birth control)
  • Breastfeed exclusively for the first 4 months, and got the mirena put in at 8 weeks pp, so no period at all. I had some random bleeding after the mirena, but not enough where I would call it a full blown period. Have gradually switched to formula the past few weeks so we shall see if it shows up! Hope not!

  • Yes! So much different! It's still extremely heavy but that's normal for me. This biggest change though is the type of cramps I'm having. I used to have nothing but back cramps, but now I get cramps/pressure right at my hoohaw. It seriously feels like I have a baby crowning again! Every time it happens I just need my knees into a kind of sumo squat because it eases the pain some. It makes DH laugh but holy cow does it suck.
Plus I'm still pissed AF returned at only 2months PP and I still EBF

  • Yup it's different... because it's still not here! EBF, and enjoying it while it lasts. I've always been irregular, so it would be nice if things happen more on a regular routine once it does come back. Lighter would be nice too.

  • No period yet here. I'm haven't had a real period(one not on birth control) in like 9 years.
