2nd Trimester

Hair Troubles

So I think my body has things backwards, instead of having even thicker luscious locks(I had ridiculously thick hair before getting pregnant), I'm losing my hair. I'm a hairstylist so I tried not to worry too much since women go through shedding periods, but my mom even pointed out that my hair looked a lot thinner. Anyone else suffer through this? I'm a little worried I'll be bald after baby comes and I got through the normal post pregnancy shedding.

Re: Hair Troubles

  • I noticed two days ago that I've been shedding horribly. Hair was all over my coat. Ugh!

  • I did have the same problem in my first pregnancy it was quite bad, I took to wearing hats. There is really nothing that helped. I took supplements, but it didn't make a huge difference. Once my DD was born, my hair did start returning.
  • Hopefully it slows down some cause I feel bald and can't wear hats at work.
  • Same thing started happening to me almost as soon as I got pregnant. Im 25 weeks now, and it seems to have slowed down. My OB says while its uncommon, it does happen in some women and theres no stopping it. I try to not wash my hair as often and try to go easy on the brushing. It sucks, but hopefully this means we wont lose alot of hair once baby is born, as a lot of women do.
  • I was up last night thinking and worrying about this. I remember when i was a child after my aunt had her baby her hair shed and ever since her hair was thin. I had long long THICK hair before i had my daughter. Never thought twice about what happened with my aunt till after i had my daughter. And BAM same shit happen to me. My hair is significantly thinner it never recovered. I now have a ton of trick to try and make it look thicker. I learned it can be hereditary. But there is a condition some females can get from pregnancy hormones making their hair shed. Sometimes it doesn't go back. Last night i was like omfg if this happens again ill need Hair Club for women !!!!!!
  • I'm seriously contemplating buying the Bosley kit for women after my little one comes if my hair doesn't recover. Call me vain but I don't think I'd know how to handle thin hair.
  • @staciecoffeyhave you spoken to your doctor about this?  I would have to assume that if this is something that has changed since you've been pregnant, it will go back to normal once your hormones are no longer completely out of whack.

Why can't you wear hats to work?  If you told your boss that your hair's gotten thinner during your pregnancy and your self conscious about it, I would think he/she would make an exception for you even if other workers aren't allowed to wear a hat.  It's basically a medical issue.  If you were losing hair through chemotherapy I have to assume you'd be allowed to wear a hat at work.

If it doesn't come back, I don't think it would be vain at all to get the Bosley kit for women.  It would be nice, as a man, to still have a full head of hair, but I can rock a shaved head and still look fine.  It's a lot harder for a woman to try to deal with that.

  • @staciecoffey - What about like a head wrap or larger headband or something? I hope something works for you soon! I'm sure being a hairdresser, they want you to be showing off your mane :)
  • Let me clear something, I longer work in a skin but still do hair in the side. I work in a corporate building so hats are a no go. @ipumpkin‌ I've tried headbands/wraps but I'm prone to headaches/migraines so after about 15 minutes I yank them off, I don't even wear my hair up because it causes such bad headaches.
  • One of my tricks to help my hair look thicker than it is. Is i have a mini crimper. It's only half an inch. I crimp my roots. Only the under layers. You can walk around with it showing. You can look it up on YouTube. I dont do the top section b.c it would be noticeable. Starting ar my crown and down.
