Nosy dentist sleep poll

so at the dentist today she started lecturing me on breast feeding as though at 3 months it was an option to change my mind??? Anyway her main claim was that BF babies sleep better since FF babies get so gassy and lack calories and nutrients. I pointed out that my 4 yr old was a sleeping champ and quickly got into 12 hr rhythms but my newborn was colicky but now doing well so I saw no correlation. She then, contrary to her own argument, said her 18 mo old still gets up every 4 hrs. So obviously I'm finding a less moronic dentist but in the interest of stats do you BF or ff and what's your LO sleeping at night? Assuming you're 12-15 wks

  • 17 weeks here, bf and not sttn

  • I'm lucky if he sleeps more than 3 hours lately and he's ebf. Dd2 quit bf at 6mos following my gallbladder surgery and she slept maybe 4hrs at a time while ff at 6-12mos. Even from 1yr to now nearly 3 1/2 she still wakes up at night for some reason.
  • BF and longest stretch is 4-6 but with closer to 4 being more common than closer to 6.
  • That's obnoxious!! I EBF and she's been sleeping 11 hrs since 8 weeks

  • WTH, Dentist? Just clean the teeth and get on with it! My BF LO is 3 months. She sleeps 7-7, but wakes up at least twice in MOTN to eat, so no more than 4 hours of sleep at a time ever.
  • FF and we average 7-9 a night depending on when she went down. Up later tends to mean up earlier, sleepy earlier means sleepy later.. so weird...

  • Almost 4 months and DD sleeps 8:30-7:00 every night. She also still takes around 3 naps a day. We formula feed.
  • BF and just turned 3 months, sleeping 8-10hrs for a little over a month now.

Maybe I am being over sensitive, but does it really matter? I just don't understand the purpose of this poll. There are so many other factors that go into a baby sleeping. Every baby is different! I EBF and my ds does not sleep through the night. The longest stretch ever was four hours. I also EBF my dd when she was a baby and she didn't sleep. The longest she would sleep was two hour stretches. To be honest she didn't STTN until she was over one.
I think it was wrong of your dentist to give her two cents on this issue. However, lately it seems like everyone has to voice their opinion. Oh your baby doesn't STTN give him rice cereal, or supplement with formula, etc. I'm the one up dealing with him, so I will feed him however I want, when he wants, and stand by my decisions tired or not.

The point was just that, that every baby is different there's no black/white answer but checking if a trend anyway.

  • DS is 13 weeks and is FF and I am happy to say the past week he has slept from 830/9pm all night to 7/9 am no sttn, I'm just super lucky I guess. He was supper gassy and projectile spit up(spit up from one end of the couch to the other no exaggeration) then switched to soy and a world a difference. I personally think it depends on the baby everyone is different.
  • I just can't believe your dentist would be lecturing you about how you're feeding your kid. Talk about overstepping boundaries!

  • EBF and been STTN the night (7+) since about week 2. I basically think its a crap shoot and has nothing to do with what methods you are using. Baby either sleeps or doesn't

    Agreed.

  • I need all the special snowflake options. We bf and supplement, and he sleeps some nights an hour at a time and other nights 7 hours in a row. It's a crapshoot every time.
