Breastfeeding

Milk going up the tube of my breast pump.

I am pumping and it's been going well. The past few times I've noticed that the milk is going UP the tubes. The last time a LOT of milk started going up into it, so I stopped pumping.

It didn't do this the first week and it was my understanding that milk stayed out of these. Am I doing something wrong?

How do I prevent this?

I have a Medela-Pump n Style advanced- Double Breastpump.

  • No they aren't. The time it started going up REALLY bad, I had only been pumping about 5 minutes.

  • I've never experienced this with Medela. Did you maybe forget the white membranes, or they aren't snapped in correctly? I would doubt after only a week both of them would be so damaged to allow that to happen.

  • No I didn't forget the membranes. It was brand new and only been use less than a week now.

It hasn't happened the last few times I pumped so hopefully all is well.

I changed the way I was holding them. I was trying to hold both with one hand so I could read a book at the same time and I think I was pinching one of the tubes a little.

Do you think that could have caused it?

Now I hold each one individually and I have one of those special "Hands Free" bras coming in the mail.

  • No the pump is higher, I'm guessing by two feet.

  • Glad to hear it isn't happening anymore. GL pumping. It is work, but is so worth it :)
