Vaccine reaction?

Owen had his 2 month vaccines yesterday including the oral Rotavirus one.  He was not feeling great last night, we gave him Tylenol, and he is acting normal today.  The only thing is his poops have turned green, and one was mucousy with streaks of blood.  Could this be a side effect of the vaccines?  I would think food allergy, but I haven't eaten anything weird (in fact, less dairy, etc).  And we only had one short feeding after the shots so I doubt it's foremilk/hindmilk imbalance.  My other theory is that it's related to the cold that I seem to have developed today.  But I really have no clue. Help!  Did this happen to any of your LO's?

Re: Vaccine reaction?

  • I wouldn't worry about it unless it persists. Even then, it will probably resolve itself. If it keeps up, you could call the pedi to ask if there's anything you should do.

Bright red blood? That's unlikely to have come from digestion or allergy and more likely to be an anal fissure.

  • When my ds got sick recently, he had a few poops that were mucousy. I would think it would be related more to the cold than the vaccines.

Yeah it was bright red.  He did work particularly hard for that poo.  No blood since this morning, though, so I will probably wait it out.

  • I agree with pp but wanted to add that they warned me it could make LOs poop funky.

  • My LO had funky poops after the rotavirus vaccine. The nurse also warned me to wash hands well after diaper changes for 48 hours because it's a live virus that passes in their stool. Ewwwww.

I just spent the last few hours googling this since nothing has changed besides shots

(After going to the doc yesterday for the THIRD TIME in a week just to get shots accomplished, I was trying to avoid another visit... Besides Google knows all!!)

Not only does LO have green poops, but now they smell like sour yogurt... Yum

ETA: another Mom said her son's poop stayed like this for 9 days after the Rotovirus oral dose

Bright red and just once definitely sounds like just a small anal fissure. :)
