Starting a CD Stash

Hi there, CD Board! I've been lurking and slowly posting for a couple weeks to try to get acquainted. I'm expecting my first son in April and this board has been great for helping me with some of the more routine questions I have had. Now I have one I haven't really found an answer to yet:

We plan on using a combo of pockets, AIOs, and prefolds with covers depending on our needs and what seems to work well. I registered and have purchased some BumGenius, Rumparooz, SweetPeas, Simplex, Blueberry, and Charlie Banana.

In your opinion, is it better to have a large mix of brands until we know what will work best for us or just try one brand at a time? I'm getting nervous to have too many of one kind if we end up not liking them. TIA!

    I like having a widely varied stash, some people like having just one kind of diaper. Honestly, you won't really know until you start using them which you prefer. Don't worry about it though, you can make any money back on things you end up not wanting by selling them here or on other swap sites.

    They're all cut so differently that it really depends on the baby what works best. One nice thing is prefolds are easy to customize for a good fit for your baby, so if you try covers in a few of those brands that will help you get an idea of what works well.

    I just wouldn't buy a ton of one brand or the other right off the bat.

    Also, I've found a lot of diapers fit differently as baby grows. For example, BGs gave us the best fit early on, then around 1 year they got really weird so I sold them. I didn't mind; that's half the fun!

    You can't really go wrong with something like prefolds or fitteds for the newborn stage. I agree with everyone else that it's good to have a variety for OS before you commit to any one type/brand. You can try them as baby approaches the larger size, see what you like, and still have plenty of time to build a OS stash while they are still in the NB or size smalls.

    In my case, I was surprised to find that I hate pockets (don't mind stuffing, but hate unstuffing the dirty ones). I only had 3 of them, so it was no big deal to just sell those and get more AIOs....if I had bought 20 off the bat, it would have been a more stressful transition. HTH!
